How To Configure The Tabbed Inbox In Gmail

Google has recently introduced the new tabbed inbox in Gmail. This new interface will auto-sort your emails into various tabs and help you to be more productive. Unlike many features that are activated by default, the tabbed inbox interface is not visible until you activate it manually. This article will show you how you can activate and configure the tabbed inbox in Gmail.

A popup window will show up. Other than the Primary tab that is checked, you can choose to enable Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums tab. As you hover above each section, it will show a snippet of the existing emails that will in fall in the respective section. For example, when I hover my mouse over the Social section, it show up all my Twitter and Facebook notification emails.

Configuring the tabbed inbox

Lastly, under the “Categorize as” section, select the tabs where the emails that match this filter will go to.

Restore to the classic interface

If you have tried the tabbed inbox interface and didn’t like it, you can get it to return to the classic interface by unchecking all the boxes.

However, if you are previously using the “Multiple Inboxes” feature to show multiple inboxes, you will find that it no longer work. To restore the multiple inboxes:

Personally, I have tried the tabbed inbox and I don’t really like it. I prefer to see all my emails in one whole list so I won’t miss out important emails. In addition, the inability to control which email go into which tab and create your own tabs make it a less useful feature than it seems. What about you? Do you love the new tabbed inbox interface in Gmail?

How To Set Up A Raspberry Pi Module With Default Settings

Raspberry Pi is a single board, low powered single board computer available for a very low price. It is one of the best boards to build solutions that come under the Internet of things or IoT. It comes out of the box with an operating system calls as NOOBS which comes out as New Out Of the Box Software. In this guide, we will be taking a look at how to set this default environment up for a new Raspberry Pi board.

How To Save A Webpage As Pdf On Ipad And Iphone The Easy Way

Want to save a web page as a PDF on iPad or iPhone? Generating PDF files of webpages and web articles is now easier than ever before in iOS, thanks to a new obvious “Create PDF” feature that is available in modern system software releases.

Any iPhone or iPad running iOS 11 or later now has the capability of creating a PDF file from any webpage in Safari through a direct feature; that means there is no more guesswork with hidden Save As PDF iOS gestures, or printing PDF 3D Touching, or forced use of iBooks (though those tricks still work if you prefer the secret approach), instead you can just directly initiate PDF creation with a simple method we will detail here in this tutorial.

This offers by far the fastest and easiest way to turn any web article or webpage into a PDF file on iOS.

How to Save Webpage as PDF on iPad and iPhone

This ‘Create PDF’ feature requires iOS 11 or newer. The walkthrough below demonstrates this capability on iPad but the feature is identical on iPhone as well.

Open Safari on the iPad or iPhone

Visit the webpage you want to save as a PDF (for example, this webpage you’re reading right now)

Tap on the Sharing button, it looks like a box with an arrow flying out of it

From the Sharing options, scroll through to find “Create PDF” and tap on that

You’ll be brought to a new screen with the PDF file visible, tap on “Done” *

Choose “Save File To…”

From the Files app iCloud Drive browser, tap the location or Folder you want to save the webpage PDF to and then tap on “Done” to save the PDF

A PDF file of the active webpage has now been created and saved to the Files app on the iPad or iPhone.

You can confirm the webpage PDF was created and saved properly by going to the “Files” app in iOS and then choosing the iCloud Drive folder or location you chose to save the PDF to.

* Before tapping on Done, you can also tap the little marker and use Markup to draw, doodle, or write on the PDF file if desired.

By default the name of generated PDF files from Safari will be in the format of “Safari – (Date of Creation) – (Time of Creation).pdf” but you can always rename it in the iOS Files app to be something more descriptive if desired.

Because Files app is also iCloud Drive, you can access the saved webpage PDF from any other iOS device or Mac that uses the same Apple ID via the Files app in iOS or via iCloud Drive on a Mac.

As mentioned before, you’ll need one of the most modern iOS releases to have access to Create PDF feature in the Safari Sharing function. You can either update to iOS 11 or later to gain this PDF creation capability, or rely on a different method of saving webpages as PDF files. Four alternative options for generating PDF documents of webpages include:

Each of those methods offers the same end result of a PDF file generated from a webpage, but with the new direct “Create PDF” option available in Safari for modern iOS it is hard to want to recommend any other choice unless your iPhone or iPad is on an older system software release.

How To Go Back To The Old Gmail Interface. (2023)

If you use Gmail as your primary email service you may or may not be open to the idea of the interface changing. Although it has been a long while since Google overhauled Gmails Interface or made any significant changes. The day has finally arrived with a new layout starting to roll out right now. If you haven’t seen it yet, it isn’t all too far away.

After quite a long time on the same interface, Google has finally decided to roll out their new Gmail interface in 2023. Thankfully, this time around they have included special options that allow users to disable or enable the new design as they please. Although I’m personally a fan of change (if implemented right, without any feature losses) not a lot of people have the same outlook. Why fix something that ain’t broke right?

The new interface is currently rolling out so you may or may not see it in your region at the moment. When you do though, the options for disabling the new Gmail interface of 2023 are as follows.

How do you disable the new 2023 Gmail interface? Go back to the old Gmail layout.

To change back to the old Gmail layout you’ll need to do the following.

A new window will appear asking for your reasoning behind changing back to the Gmail Legacy design. You don’t have to fill this section out but if you want to have your say on what you don’t like about the new design, I’d take the time to fill it out.

Alternatively, you can enable the new Gmail 2023 interface by following the same steps and selecting the Try out the new Gmail view. You should also be very aware that although Google is allowing you to continue using the old legacy layout in Gmail for now this probably won’t last. Google has a long track recording of bumping everyone onto the new version pretty quickly. For this reason, I strongly suggest that you give as much feedback as possible during the transition period.

This Wild Grassland In The Amazon Isn’t As Untouched As It Seems

In the southern edge of the Amazon basin lies a huge grassland, the Llano de Mojos. It’s something in between dry land and water, carved up by rivers and swamps, the entire landscape floods every year during the wet season. But in spite of the power of those waters, new research suggests that the key features of the landscape, from its plants to its floods, were shaped more by humans than the geography, or even the climate.

“What is the Amazon?” says John Walker, an archaeologist at the University of Central Florida. “It’s not just one thing.”

It’s long been clear that the landscape was made by humans, says Walker, who has worked in the region for decades and was an author on the recent study, published in the journal PNAS.

There are three key human structures in the Mojos: long, narrow fields that stick out of the floodplain just a handful of centimeters, fish traps that cut across waterways, and “forest islands” that loom over the flat horizon. Three quarters of those forest islands—which were likely built out of the flat plain by humans—contain unambiguous signs of human habitation, from the remains of fires to ditches and ceramics.

The researchers set out to understand how that landscape had transformed over time.

They took soil cores from two sites in the swamp about 13 miles apart. In each of them, the soil showed the same story: thousands of years ago, the region was relatively dry. Then, traces of wetland plants and aquatic microorganisms showed that regular floods had occurred on the landscape, as they do today. At the same time as the floods, charcoal fragments began to appear. When the fire was most intense, the soil contained traces of crops like corn, squash, and sweet potato.

But that progression happened at different times at the two sites. At one, fire and floods began 6,000 years ago. At the other, those became dominant 1,500 years later. And that suggests to the researchers that the landscape was transformed into a swamp not because of increased rainfall, but because of human management.

Forest islands in the Llano de Mojos. Thomas Lee

“This is really weird,” says Walker. “It’s very difficult to imagine a climate explanation or some kind of geographic explanation. To me, the obvious suspect is all these artificial earthworks that are everywhere.”

The research is the latest in a body of work that suggests that even the “wildest” ecosystems on the planet, like the Australian outback and the Amazon basin, are not the product of untouched nature, but of human cultivation. And often that cultivation has gone on for thousands of years longer than scientists have recognized.

In the case of the Mojos, the researchers believe that the high ground of the forest islands may have been inhabited since at least 8,900 BCE. That’s in line with other research that argues the region was a hub of early agriculture, and may have even been a domestication hotspot on par with the Ganges, Mediterranean, and Papua New Guinea.

When most people think “what is the Amazon,” Walker says, “It’s Nature with a capital N. It’s something that has to exist in the universe because it’s a contrast to culture or the city, or something like that… I think that idea is sometimes more influential than what we really know about the Amazon.”

The Mojos region is now mostly cattle ranches. And the study suggests that those cattle have also shaped the landscape: before they were introduced in the 1600s, the plains were full of shrubs and trees, a bit like Africa’s Serengeti.

Still, Walker cautions, it’s not easy to know how to interpret the earthworks. The first European accounts of the region describe people fishing in the area’s shallow waters, but the existing indigenous society was quickly destroyed by colonization and disease, and many of the landscapes were abandoned or converted to ranchland. Pollen from the soil cores show that the forest islands grew back over with heavy tree cover at that time. (The entire Amazon basin experienced such a catastrophic population collapse that the regrowth of the continent’s forests led to a dramatic dip in global carbon.) The forest islands show clear signs of human use, while the fields look like agricultural land, but without firsthand accounts it would be a step too far to think of them as villages and farms.

[Related: Humans are pushing into animals’ homes, but nature is as rebellious as ever]

“I’m scared of the European-farming-style bucket,” Walker says. “I’m less interested in saying, ‘okay, [the inhabitants] were on this island and nowhere else.’ Those islands might have been useful even when people weren’t living on them.”

For one thing, the islands support plants and animals in surprising ways. While excavating, the team found a burrowing fish living in the mud at the bottom of a ditch on the island. “That’s just to hammer home the point that the things people did are affecting plants and animals today. Those forest islands are great places for all kinds of animals.”

Walker makes the point that pre colonization societies may have farmed, hunted, and fished in ways that wouldn’t be obvious to Europeans. And even if people don’t actively inhabit the forest islands anymore, Walker says that his local research partners who grew up in the area “have all kinds of knowledge of plants and animals and historical changes” at the sites. On one cattle ranch, he remembers, one partner knew that there was a howler monkey living on a forest island alongside several dozen workers.

“The interplay between what we think of as nature, and the people living there, is complicated. And it’s probably been complicated for thousands of years.”
