Suggested March 2024 Set Windows 11/10 To Restart Immediately To Install An Important Updates

One of the best features in Windows 11/10 is that Microsoft is not forcing feature updates unless their service terms have expired. It also means that some of the updates, including important ones, can get unnoticed. Apart from this, updates need to honor Active Hour settings. In this post, we are sharing a trick which will make Windows 11/10 restart immediately when required to install an important update. This is especially useful in the case of Security Updates.

Set Windows 11 to restart immediately to install important Updates

Windows 11 settings are significantly different from those of Windows 10, especially when it comes to options associated with Windows updates. Rather, Windows Updates have been given a separate menu since Microsoft understood that it is fairly well used.

In the Settings menu, go to the Windows Update tab on the list on the left-hand side.

In the right-pane, select Advanced options.

Now, turn ON the switch associated with Get me up to date.

The feature is off by default for all installations.

Restart the device as soon as possible when a restart is required to install an update

Here is how to turn it on in Windows 10:

Toggle on the option which says – Restart the computer as soon as possible to install the update.

That’s it. The next time a critical update becomes available, Windows will immediately install the update, and if required, restart the computer after giving you a warning.

The full details go as:

Restart the device as soon as possible when a restart is required to install an update. Windows will display a notice before the restart, and the device must be plugged in.

Windows will give you enough time to save your work. Usually, a notice about it will show up in the Action Center or a pop-up about the scheduled restart. In case you have an urgent job, you need to complete, you can abort the shutdown with this command.

If you are using a laptop, keep it unplugged, so it doesn’t start automatically. However, make sure to restart and complete the update when your work is complete. Windows 10 v1903 has a new icon for Windows 10 Update notifications. It becomes available in the notification area or system tray alerting you to restart your device.

Why should I turn ON the Restart Immediately After Updates option?

Most users would prefer to defer updates even though updates are necessary because they are working. While you can choose to update your system out of active hours, but would you specifically keep your system ON at that point in time? Missing crucial updates could lead to a security threat for your system. Thus, choosing this option could be beneficial.

I see my system forcing me to update Windows 11 even though I never turned on the mentioned option. Why?

A lot of updates are crucial to the system. This includes many featured updates. While you can defer them, if done so for too long despite multiple prompts, Windows 11 will force the updates to your system under the same 15 minutes rule.

How To Install Google Play Store On Windows 11.

If you have updated to Windows 11 and would like to get the Google Play Store working on your device instead of the Amazon Appstore. This article will guide you through a new and far easier process for getting the Google Play Store working with Sub System for Android on Windows 11.

Windows Subsystem for Android is one of the best additions to Windows 11 and allows you to get access to a ton of Android apps straight on your Windows PC. Unfortunately for the time being it is officially limited to apps from the Amazon Appstore rather than apps from the Google Play Store. The good news is that there is a workaround for this that allows you to install the Google Play Store with a modded version of Sub System for Android but there are a few requirements.

How to sideload Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11.

Once you have everything set up, get the Amazon Appstore from the Microsoft Store. If it blocks you because of country restrictions, you can use a VPN to connect to a US server and it will work. Once you have signed into the Amazon app store don’t worry if you get any errors you can start the process of migrating to the Google Play Store.

Starting the process of installing Google Play on Windows 11.

The tool we are using for this guide isn’t an official Microsoft product and is an open-source project on GitHub. Because of this, you must decide if you want to proceed at your own risk. That said, being open-source with a 700+ star feedback rating it “should” be safe.

Installing Google Play Store on Windows 11.

To begin, visit the GitHub page and check out more info on the project and the how-to section if you would like.

Next copy and paste the following command into Powershell and press Enter.

Note: If the above command doesn’t work grab the updated one from the GitHub page and proceed.

This trigger Powershell to pop up again and ask if you want to install a new version of Windows subsystem for Android. Simply type P and press Enter to confirm.

A link will be displayed where you can download the file from. Simply copy and paste it into your browser then download it.

Now paste that path into Powershell and press Enter.

It will take a few minutes to install the new subsystem for Android and the Google Play Store so wait for it to complete.

When the new subsystem for Android window appears and have loaded into its working condition you can close it and find the Google Play Store app in the Start menu.

Now it’s simply a case of opening the Play Store, signing into your account and using it as you would on your mobile device. That’s it you’re done.

Alternatively, you can always still sideload APKs from places like APKmirror. Check out the guide below for more info.

How To Remotely Shut Down Or Restart Your Windows 10 Pc

A remote shutdown or restart comes in handy when you have several PCs set up in different rooms and don’t want to keep visiting each machine to shut down or restart it physically. Thankfully, Windows 10 offers a utility through which you can shut down or restart PCs connected to your network.

This includes the chúng tôi utility that simply shuts down or restarts Windows 10 PCs in your local network once they’re configured accordingly. From here on it’s only a matter of seconds to perform the tasks remotely.

Here’s how to remotely shut down or restart your Windows 10 PC.

Enable remote registry service

If you want to shut down or restart your PC remotely, you’ll start by configuring each computer in your local network.

By default, the remote registry service is disabled. To enable it, use the steps below.

2. Find Remote Registry from the list of search results.

4. Find Startup Type in the Properties Window, and set it to Automatic.

6. Go to the computer’s firewall, and open the required port.

7. In the search bar type “Allow an app through Windows Firewall.”

8. Press Enter.

10. Enable the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) exception. You’ll need admin permissions to do this on the remote computer, otherwise the command will fail. Press OK once done.

How to Perform Remote Shutdown

In order to shut down your Windows 10 PC, take the following steps:

2. Press Enter. The Command Prompt window will open.

3. Type this command:

shutdown

/

i

4. In the remote shutdown dialog, add one or more names of PCs, and specify if you want to shut down or restart. You also have the option to warn users and log a message to the event log.

Use a Command Line

This method requires you to tweak some registry settings to shut down or restart your Windows 10 PC. However, you need to follow the steps carefully, as any misconfiguration in the registry can destabilize the system.

Follow these steps:

2. Type regedit and press Enter.

3. Go to the following registry key:

6. Enter the label: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy.

8. Close and exit the registry.

9. Reboot to confirm changes. You can now shut down or restart your PC remotely.

12. At the Command Prompt window log into the computer. For example: net use \MachineName and press Enter.

13. At the Microsoft Account ID or machine, type your username and password.

14. Type

shutdown –

r

–m \MachineName –t

-

01

and press Enter.

Depending on the switches you pick, your remote computer should shut down or restart automatically.

You can also specify longer periods for these processes, and to ensure it shuts down or restarts, add /f switch to the command line as follows:

shutdown

/

m \ MachineName

/

r

/

f

to close any running apps on the remote machine.

Batch File

This method helps when you want to remotely shut down or restart a Windows 10 PC at the same time every day.

While using a command line works, it may be a drag if you have to do this every time. The easier option is to automate the process of shutting down and/or restarting all your Windows 10 PCs.

To do this:

1. Launch Notepad.

2. Enter the remote shutdown and/or restart command with the network of each computer on a new line. For example:

shutdown –

r

–m \Lenovo

-

pc1 t

-

01 shutdown –

r

–m \MachineName –t

-

01

Note: depending on whether you want to shut down (-s) or restart (-r), you can modify the switches and then save the file on your desktop using .the bat extension, i.e. shutdownrestart.bat.

Windows 10 is currently available as a free upgrade for all Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users, but the free upgrade period will end soon. After the free upgrade period ends, only way to get Windows 10 would be to purchase your own copy, but there’s another way to download Microsoft Windows 10 for free after the Windows 10 upgrade period ends on July 29th.

As you know, only owners of legitimate copies of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are eligible for free upgrade, but you can also download Windows 10 for free, even if you don’t meet the required conditions, or even if you don’t use Windows operating system at all.

Microsoft is testing Windows 10 constantly with new updates in its Insider program, and there is always demand for more testers that will try new features before they are released to public. All Insider members can legally download and install Windows 10 and use it free of charge on their PC.

There’s no particular requirements on you can join the Insiders program and test new Windows 10 updates, therefore even if you don’t own Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, or even if you don’t use Windows at all, you can still get Windows 10 for free by joining the Insiders program.

Download Windows 10 for free and join the Insiders program

Getting Windows 10 for free and joining the Insiders program is rather simple and you can do that by following these simple steps:

Read the Terms of Service and check your areas of interest.

Scroll the all the way down and select which build you wish to download.

Download process will start, but since Windows 10 .iso file is somewhat large, you might have to wait a while for download to complete.

Once the .iso file is downloaded, you’ll have to burn it to a DVD or create a bootable USB flash drive.

If you wish to keep your files, just insert the Windows 10 DVD or USB flash drive and run setup.exe from it. If you wish to perform a clean installation and remove all your files, set the USB or DVD as a first boot device from BIOS and install Windows 10. To see how to do that, check your motherboard manual for detailed instructions.

After you’ve installed Windows 10 Preview, you can use it freely as long as you want.

There had been certain confusions regarding Windows 10 Insider Preview and the final release of Windows 10. Users thought that by joining the Insiders program they would obtain a genuine Windows 10 license, but that’s not the case. This issue sparked a lot confusion, therefore Microsoft’s Gabe Aul gave its clarification in this blog post.

If you wish to use Windows 10 Preview and be a member of Insider program, you can do that for free as long as you like, regardless of what version of Windows you’re currently using, but if you wish to leave the Insiders program and get a genuine Windows 10 license, you’ll have to upgrade from a genuine copy of Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 just like everybody else.

Getting a free version of Windows 10 isn’t that hard, and the free Windows 10 Preview is available for download with no limitations. Only issue with Windows 10 Preview might be occasional bugs and few issues, but you can use it for free without any limitations.

The Creators Update takes the Windows experience to the next level, enhancing the Windows gaming experience, making 3D mainstream, and unleashing creativity.

Unfortunately, not all Windows 10 users have been able to successfully upgrade due to a series of install and setup issues.

If you’ve encountered any of them, first download and run Microsoft’s Update Troubleshooter. If these issues still persist, follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Error 80240020, 8007002C, 80246007, 80070004 Install usually stops responding at 99%

Check the hard disk’s LED light to make sure that there is still disk activity. If there is, keep waiting for up to three hours. If nothing happens after three hours, continue the troubleshooting process.

If you are using a laptop, remove its battery.

Disconnect your computer from the internet, then turn it on but don’t connect it to the internet.

Wait to see if the setup process completes.

Error 0xc000021a, 0xc0000001

Try installing the Creators Update again. If error 0xc000021a still appears on the screen, use the Startup Repair option:
