The tech giant quietly rolled out this tool back in 2023, so a lot of users may not even be aware of its existence. The option is available for most Android devices, and in this article we explain how you can implement it yourself in order to start curbing your Google Play expenses.
Enter the Google Play Store Budgeting ToolGoogle is making it easier for people to keep their app spending habits in check through a relatively new budgeting tool. This feature can be accessed from the Play Store on Android phones or tablets, but not via the Web.
The tool basically allows users to set a monthly budget to be spent on apps and other digital content. This cap applies to every type of content available via the Play Store, including movies, TV shows, music and more.
How to Set a Monthly App Budget on Your Android Device1. Open the Google Play Store on your device.
2. Tap on the hamburger menu located in the upper-left corner of the display.
3. Select Account.
4. From there, select the Purchase History tab.
5. Set a budget for the current month by tapping on the “Set Budget” option.
6. Set the amount to spend per month. Hit Save and you’re done!
Please note that this budget can be adjusted at any time or removed altogether. Just follow the steps we’ve outlined above to do so. In the same screen, you’ll also be able to see a list of all the apps and games you’ve purchased during the last few months.
However, as Google itself cautions, this tool won’t take any action to prevent further purchases once you’ve exceeded the set amount. It’s meant solely as a way to easily track your spending on the Play Store. Consequently, you’ll have to periodically check the feature to make sure you didn’t go above your budget, although Google says it will let you know if you’re getting close.
Now, given all this, it wouldn’t hurt to set up some extra precautions to ensure your spending is kept in check. For instance, you should consider enabling authentication for purchases in the Play Store.
This helps to prevent any accidental purchases and may even make you think twice before buying a new app on a whim. It could also act as a reminder to go back to the Budget tool to see how much you’ve spent this month and check whether there’s room for yet another purchase.
How to Enable Authentication for Purchases on Your Android Device1. Open the Google Play Store on your device.

3. Select Settings.
4. Tap on “Require authentication for purchases” under User controls.
5. Select the option For all purchases through Google Play on this device.
6. Tap OK to confirm it.
Now every time you make a purchase, whether for a new app, game or in-app purchase, you’ll be required to authenticate via your Google password.
Alternatively, you can also set up Biometric authentication for your Google Play purchases from the same User controls section. Once you’ve done so, you’ll be able to use whatever biometric authentication you have on your phone to authorize payments to go through.

How To Install Google Play Store On Windows 11.
If you have updated to Windows 11 and would like to get the Google Play Store working on your device instead of the Amazon Appstore. This article will guide you through a new and far easier process for getting the Google Play Store working with Sub System for Android on Windows 11.

Windows Subsystem for Android is one of the best additions to Windows 11 and allows you to get access to a ton of Android apps straight on your Windows PC. Unfortunately for the time being it is officially limited to apps from the Amazon Appstore rather than apps from the Google Play Store. The good news is that there is a workaround for this that allows you to install the Google Play Store with a modded version of Sub System for Android but there are a few requirements.
How to sideload Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11.
Once you have everything set up, get the Amazon Appstore from the Microsoft Store. If it blocks you because of country restrictions, you can use a VPN to connect to a US server and it will work. Once you have signed into the Amazon app store don’t worry if you get any errors you can start the process of migrating to the Google Play Store.

The tool we are using for this guide isn’t an official Microsoft product and is an open-source project on GitHub. Because of this, you must decide if you want to proceed at your own risk. That said, being open-source with a 700+ star feedback rating it “should” be safe.
Installing Google Play Store on Windows 11.
To begin, visit the GitHub page and check out more info on the project and the how-to section if you would like.
Next copy and paste the following command into Powershell and press Enter.
Note: If the above command doesn’t work grab the updated one from the GitHub page and proceed.
This trigger Powershell to pop up again and ask if you want to install a new version of Windows subsystem for Android. Simply type P and press Enter to confirm.
A link will be displayed where you can download the file from. Simply copy and paste it into your browser then download it.
Now paste that path into Powershell and press Enter.
It will take a few minutes to install the new subsystem for Android and the Google Play Store so wait for it to complete.
When the new subsystem for Android window appears and have loaded into its working condition you can close it and find the Google Play Store app in the Start menu.
Now it’s simply a case of opening the Play Store, signing into your account and using it as you would on your mobile device. That’s it you’re done.

How To Fix “Server Error” In Play Store App
The most useful app on any Android phone is the Google Play Store app, as it lets you download other apps on your device. Of course, you can download apps through other methods without using Play Store, but the ease and the security that Google Play Store offers is far ahead of other methods.
Google Play Store comes pre-installed on almost all Android phones except in countries where Google services are banned like China, Myanmar etc. Over the years, Google Play Store has improved a lot but nothing is perfect. Like other apps, Google Play Store also throws up various kinds of error every now and then. No, wait. We are not blaming Google Play Store; usually, the errors come up due to an issue from the user side.

One such error that usually pops up on the Google Play Store is “Server error” with a Retry button (as shown in the above image). So what should you do in this case when hitting Retry button multiple times doesn’t solve the issue.

Check internet connection
Normally, Google Play Store throws up the “Server error” when the internet is not working on your device. If you are on a Wi-Fi network, check whether your Wi-Fi internet is working or not. Launch Chrome on your device and open any web page. If the web page also doesn’t open, something is wrong with your internet connection. You should switch to mobile data to see if it fixes the issue.

Clear Google Play Store cache and data
Open device Settings followed by Apps/Application Manager.

Remove Google account from phone
To remove Google account from your phone and to re-add it, follow the steps:
Go to device Settings followed by Accounts.
Under accounts, select Google.
Select the account name linked with the Google Play Store.
On the next screen, tap the overflow menu or three dots present at the top right corner and Select “Remove Account”.
After removing the account, clear data and cache for Google Play Store as mentioned above.
Reboot your device.
Now go to Accounts, then Google, add your Google account back.
Then launch the Google Play Store. It should open normally.
Open device Settings followed by Apps/Application Manager.
Scroll down and tap “Google Play Store”.
Tap “Disable” Button.
A pop-up will ask for your confirmation, tap Disable on the pop-up.
Once it removes all the recent updates, “Disable” button will be replaced by “Enable”, select it.

Change the language to English (United States)

Depending on how and what you use your Android device for, either work or play will determine how important productivity and multitasking is to you. Floating apps allow you to have multiple apps open and in view on Android without the need to push or pull them to and from the background. Opening apps in floating windows on Android devices?
The first thing you are going to realise about floating apps on Android is that they all run from a web-based browser style version, rather than a traditional app. This is what allows them to function in windows. I’m not going to lie, it will take a little bit to get used to at first.
In the top left-hand corner of your screen, you’ll see a tiny floating icon which is where you can access all the pre-defined floating app options.
The list of apps isn’t gigantic but it is enough to get you started on your floating windows journey. Opening an app from this menu will open it in a new floating window on your screen which you can drag to a location that suits your planned layout. It’s important to note that these icons will move across all screens you have set on your device, they don’t lock to a screen.
Double-tapping the bar across the top of the floating window will expand the app to full screen, tapping it again will restore it to its original size. The small icon to the left of the X will minimise the floating window to an icon which you can place wherever you like on your screen. You can also use the grab tab in the bottom right-hand corner to manually adjust the screen size for each window’s default size.
With this information, you can now open and configure as many apps as you and your screen space can handle. For apps like Facebook and Instagram, you’ll need to sign into them as though you are using the browser version.
Note: Accessing YouTube using a floating window will allow you to keep it running whilst not open in the foreground. Something that isn’t available by default on Android without purchasing a YouTube subscription.
Seeing as using/working with apps in floating windows is a little more involved than you’re probably used to, you’ll want to give yourself a little time to explore the app and get used to the way it works. At first, it may feel very foreign.
The Latest Guidance On How To Prevent Cancer
Cancer is second only to heart disease in the number of people it kills annually in the US. For Hispanic and Asian Americans, and those under 80, it’s the leading cause of death. Millions of dollars, both public and private, get spent every year in a search for new cancer treatments, but since the 1980s there’s also been a focus on how to prevent cancer cases in the first place.
The American Cancer Society just updated its recommendations from its last publication in 2012, and though the guidelines are similar there are some key takeaways. Much of it may sound like common sense: Eat a healthy diet, exercise plenty, and don’t drink alcohol. But research shows that the risk factors associated with being overweight, eating a poor diet, drinking significantly, and having a sedentary lifestyle account for 18.2 percent of all cancer cases in the US, and nearly 15.8 percent of the deaths.
Here’s what the new guidelines—along with other world leaders in cancer research—say is best to prevent cancer.
Exercise moreThe ACS now recommends 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous physical activity every week, which works out to either 2.5 to 5 hours or 1.25 to 2.5 hours a week. Broken down even further, that’s an average of about 20 to 45 minutes of moderate exercise a day, or 10 to 20 of vigorous activity.
The ACS notes that there seems to be a linear relationship between the amount of exercise a person gets and their cancer risk—the more activity, the lower the risk. Meta-analyses have demonstrated that there’s a link between a higher risk of colon, breast (in women), and endometrial cancers and low physical activity. There’s also some evidence that suggests exercise can decrease a person’s risk of a wide variety of cancers.
It’s not exactly clear yet how physical activity might help prevent cancer, but researchers are starting to hone in on some reasons. Cancer is, at its core, a dysregulation of cellular division—cancer cells divide too frequently, which increases the rate of mutations that can lead to cancer. Exercise seems to have a beneficial effect on a lot of those mechanisms: Reducing inflammation, stabilizing the genome,controlling immune function and insulin activity, and reducing cellular (or oxidative) stress, among other things.
Drawing a clear, causational link is tough, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that regular exercise is an important part of cancer prevention.
Eat more whole foods and less processed stuffRather than specifying certain amounts of specific foods, or eliminating anything entirely, the ACS guidelines now suggest what it calls “a healthy eating pattern.” That means eating nutritious food, a variety of veggies, plenty of fruit, and lots of whole grains. It also means limiting or not eating red and processed meats, sugary drinks, and highly processed foods in general.
That’s because, despite what you might see in headlines, drawing links between specific foods and cancer risk is difficult to impossible. There’s no specific food that cancer researchers think prevents cancer. But it is abundantly clear that eating a healthy, well-rounded diet as a whole is a good cancer prevention strategy.
Fruit and vegetables have nutrients we need to keep our cells running. Whole grains have fiber that improve our gut microbiome. Conversely, processed foods are low in nutrients and fiber, yet high in fats and sugars. It’s not that you can’t ever eat candy again—it’s that a healthy diet overall means balancing that out with whole, nutritious foods.
The report also acknowledges that eating this kind of diet is hard for many people. Many Americans live in food deserts—areas with no grocery stores, or only stores that sell processed foods and little of the fresh stuff. Even those with access may have trouble paying higher prices for whole foods, or lack the time to prepare a meal when a fast food option is both cheaper and easier. Tackling those issues will require broader community and political action, but fixing the problems is crucial to US public health as a whole.
Don’t drink alcoholThis isn’t going to be a popular one, but here’s the painful truth: Alcohol consumption is the third-biggest modifiable risk factor for cancer after smoking and being overweight. At least seven types of cancers are directly linked to it, including oral cavity, colorectal, liver, and breast cancers. That’s because alcohol is a known carcinogen—it damages DNA, increases cellular division rates, and causes cellular (or oxidative) stress.
Despite these facts, more than 50 percent of the population over 12 drinks alcohol, and around a quarter qualify as binge drinkers (meaning they’ve had at least five drinks on the same occasion at least once in the past 30 days). And as a result, alcoholic beverages cause 5.6 percent of all cancer cases in the US and 4 percent of all cancer deaths. It’s why the World Health Organization lists lowering alcohol consumption as one of its “best buys” for interventions that would have substantial impacts on cancer rates.
Of course, most of the people reading this article are unlikely to stop drinking just because of these facts. Alcohol holds a huge place in cultures around the world, and certainly in the US, and quitting entirely is taken as a strong stance—Many people get pushback from their friends and family if they decide not to drink.
The ACS notes that if you do drink, your goal should be to limit yourself to no more than one drink a day for women, and two for men. That may be a lot lower than what you normally consume, but if you really want to reduce your cancer risk, this is one of the biggest impacts you can have.
