Upload speed means how fast you can transmit data from a device over the internet. Whether sending an e-mail, liking a social media post, playing online games, or video chatting, it’s essential to consider upload speed over the download.

If you’re a home user and have tested the internet connection, you’ve likely noticed that the upload speed is much slower than the download. Well, this is mainly because most users still utilize a Cable-Model or DSL internet, which prioritizes downstream over upstream data.

There can also be other reasons you’re facing slower upload speed – outdated router, weak Wi-Fi signals, damaged networking device, and more. Although the best way to increase this is by upgrading the internet plan, there are other techniques too, which we will discuss further.

A slower upload speed may not be a serious issue if you’re a normal user. But if you’re an avid gamer or work from home most of the time, this is something you shouldn’t ignore.

The better the upload speed, the clearer your video calls, fewer the lags in games, and quicker the file transfer. While it’s considered good if the rate is at least 5 Mbps, we recommend aiming for more than 10 Mbps for a smoother online experience.

Before diving into the methods below, we suggest power cycling both the router and modem on a daily basis. This will clear temporary data and restore your networking devices to their default state. Hence, any issues within them get fixed, and you shouldn’t have any problem with the upload speed.

With the increased number of devices, both your upload and download speeds are bound to get affected. There’s a high chance someone might hog the network bandwidth among several users in your household. Therefore, limiting the number of devices is the best precaution to preserve internet speed.

Different Ethernet Cables

Having a wireless connection means you can move your devices within a specified range without losing internet access. However, Wi-Fi is slower than a wired connection and is more prone to signal interference, overused bandwidth, etc.

You may have noticed that your upload and download speeds are affected after moving even a little further from your Wi-Fi router. But this can be solved by adopting a LAN connection, which can additionally improve connectivity and security.

When using ethernet, it’s also essential to consider appropriate ethernet cable. Generally, home users prefer twisted-pair of different categories (CAT 5, 6, 7, 8).

If you’re using a CAT 6 cable, you may only get the maximum speed of 1000 Mbps over a 100-meter cable. Thus, switching to a higher category (7, 7a, or 8) can transmit signals up to 40,000 Mbps, significantly improving the upload speed.

Adjust Your Router

As mentioned earlier, a router’s location can also fluctuate your internet speed. The further you move away from the networking device, the wireless signal keeps weakening. Hence, it’s vital to adjust your WiFi router to an ideal location so there is no interference wherever you move around your home.

If it’s not possible to change the router location, we recommend moving close to the device yourself. You should now notice a slight improvement in both your upload and download speeds.

When uploading files, ensure that you do not run other resource-hungry applications. Opening such programs can consume considerable bandwidth, negatively affecting upload speed.

There are several network monitoring software that can help identify programs and services consuming high bandwidth. Also, you can utilize the Resource Monitor on Windows to check the same:

Firstly, open Task Manager using the dedicated hotkey, Ctrl + Shift + Esc.

Although most of us prefer a VPN to bypass firewalls or enjoy a stable connection on specific services, keeping it enabled may slow down your internet. Once you disable it, you’ll notice that the files get uploaded instantly. Kindly follow the below instructions on how to turn off the VPN on Windows 11:

Go to the Settings application by pressing Windows + I keys.

The Metered Connection setting can be enabled on both ethernet or wireless connections to reduce excessive data usage on the connected network. But while doing so, some apps may work differently, affecting the upload speed. Here’s a quick guide on how to fix this issue:

First, open Settings on your PC and go to Network & Internet.

Now, navigate to the connected network’s properties.

Check your upload speed, and you’ll likely notice an increase.

The Domain Naming System (DNS) translates the domain names to computer-understandable format (IP addresses). Since each server has its own speed, you can try out which works best for you. For demonstration, we’ve used the popular Google DNS server, which is proven to increase the upload speed:

First of all, open a web browser and navigate to your router’s configuration page. For demonstration, we’ve used TP-Link Archer A7.

Log in using the username and password.

Save the setting and check your upload speed to see if this has done the trick.

Another way to increase upload speed is updating everything – networking devices, network drivers, and the operating system. Any missing system files or damaged drivers can reduce both the upload and download speeds.

Updating your modem and router’s firmware is relatively easy. However, this is different for every manufacturer. You can either contact your ISP to get the firmware update or do it manually, as demonstrated below on TP-Link Archer 7:

Open a web browser and visit your router’s configuration page.

Next, open Advanced settings.

If yes, hit the dedicated button and wait until the router’s firmware is complete.

Now, open your modem’s configuration page and repeat the same steps to upgrade its firmware.

Moreover, you can even upgrade your router from 2.4 to 5 GHz or higher band. This will maximize your network performance and can also improve the upload speed. Likewise, we recommend adopting a mesh router for better coverage. This way, you do not have to worry about positioning yourself or the networking device.

If none of the techniques worked for you, the final option is to contact your ISP. Sometimes, they intentionally throttle bandwidth to reduce network congestion. So, it’s best to inform them about your slow upload speed, and they should help you out.

Nonetheless, you can always ask your ISP for a symmetrical connection (same download and upload speed). However, they will likely charge more, and you’ll also need to switch from your DSL or Cable-Model to a fiber-optic network.

Increase Speed To Market In 2023 By Using An Iot Platform

In this article, we plan to provide an in-depth overview of what an IoT platform is, what it can offer executives, and share the best platforms on the market today to help simplify your decision-making process.

What is an IoT platform?

IoT platforms facilitate the scalable deployment of IoT sensors by providing a platform for secure management and analysis of their IoT devices and data. The important functions of an IoT platform include data management, analytics, application development, interoperability, device management, and security.

Basically, an Iot platform is a middleware that integrates applications and hardware while providing an environment for data analytics. These platforms transfer information between two IoT layers: hardware and applications (see Figure 1). They transmit data from a variety of hardware to the cloud to make it useful for applications while transferring commands from applications to hardware.

Figure 1: A map-out of IoT platform acting as a middlware between the hardware and the application, ThingsOn

What are the components of an IoT platform?

To understand IoT platforms, businesses should understand the components of IoT systems. Though every IoT platform has its own specific set of unique features and mechanisms, a complete IoT platform has four different components:

To understand IoT platforms, businesses should understand the layers of IoT systems. Though every IoT platform has its own specific set of unique features and mechanisms, a complete IoT platform is composed of six different layers:

Infrastructure: It enables the functioning of the platform. Its building blocks are container management — which is, organizing a large number of software applications — internal platform messaging, orchestration of IoT solution clusters, and others.

Communication: It allows for the devices to connect to the cloud.

Core features: They include features such as data collection, device management, configuration management — which is, maintaining consistency of a product’s performance — messaging, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Reporting: It allows for the generation of custom reports of IoT devices and platform performance.

Visualizations: It’s for data representation in user applications.

If you are curious about learning more regarding IoT applications that offer all the functionalities discussed so far, we have a vendor list of the top 143 IoT software applications of 2023.

Rule engine, analytics, and alerting: They are responsible for notifying you about any anomalies detected in your solution. This layer can also be viewed as the monitoring layer of your IoT system.

If you are interested in familiarizing yourself with the best IoT analytics platforms, we have a list of the top 7 vendors of such services.

Recommendations:

Investigate the connectivity, data processing, and administrative capabilities of IoT platforms before making a purchase decision.

Ensure that the IoT platform connects with IoT devices and integrates with all connected device apps and APIs.

Why is it important now?

According to a research done by Cisco, 75% of IoT projects fail. An IoT platform can help companies succeed by shortening development time to speed time to market, making applications scalable, reducing costs, and avoiding technical errors.

An IoT platform simplifies development by solving many of the problems and complexities that companies face when building an IoT application. By using a platform, companies can focus on the solution instead of dealing with setting up an infrastructure to support the IoT application.

Figure 2 below shows the proliferation of IoT devices. As the number of sensors and devices increases, so does the data collected and the complexity of IoT projects. An IoT platform helps companies combine a variety of devices and manage IoT data on a large scale.

Figure 2: A graph showcasing the sustained increase in the number of IoT devices, Hackermoon

What are the benefits of an IoT platform?

Faster deployment: An IoT platform is software that facilitates the building of IoT systems by providing various integrated tools. It facilitates data collection and transmission, device management, and application development within the IoT system.

Reduced investment for setting up an IoT system: Resorting to an off-the-shelf IoT platform enables companies to find a compromise between investment and operating costs. An IoT platform lowers the development and testing costs for an IoT system. However, relying on a third-party platform provider requires the company to pay long-term subscription or licensing fees.

What are the important capabilities of an IoT platform?

Application development: Users can develop and deploy IoT applications that are compatible with devices compatible with the IoT platform.

Data management at scale: With the increasing number of sensors and devices, collected data and the complexity of IoT projects increase. An IoT platform helps businesses manage data at scale.

Analytics: An IoT platform can have analytics capabilities such as rule engines, event stream processing, machine learning, and data visualization. It can support the analysis of data either at the edge or in the cloud to generate actionable insights.

Interoperability & integration: A platform can provide communication with different types of devices (sensors, cameras, wearables, etc.) so that their data can be transmitted to the cloud correctly.

Device Management: IoT platforms enable users to track, monitor, and manage physical IoT devices. Effective device management is important for the connectivity and security of IoT devices.

Security: Organizations can ensure the security of data within the IoT system by relying on the features of an IoT platform.

Recommendation: Evaluate and prioritize these benefits and capabilities (i.e. cost/benefit and ROI analysis) according to your enterprise’s specific needs and requirements.

How To Increase Site Traffic

7 must-check questions for your acquisition strategy

To help you think through how to improve your site traffic, Dave Chaffey and I  have developed these seven key questions to help improve your results. We hope they’re helpful – let us know how you find them. You can find more detailed guidance in the Reach section of our RACE digital marketing planning course.

This is the first in a short series covering different parts of digital strategy to focus on:

Question 1. Do we have visibility of actual against target performance in support of our business goals?

There’s the popular marketing mantra – ‘you can’t manage what you can’t measure’. And, in my opinion that’s the place to start from when planning to grow the effectiveness of your digital acquisition. The benchmarking process starts with a clear understanding of how you perform across a range of channels, and then understanding the relative efficiencies of different sources for traffic or reach based KPIs and their impact on marketing or sales conversions, including lead generation or email newsletter sign-ups. These are the VQVC metrics Dave describes in this post introducing the RACE KPI framework.

Amazingly, marketers will still spend on a channel and judge success based upon a simple traffic or visitor KPI, such as volume, and the draw a cost based on visitor or impression. This is a route to failure in commercial terms. You need volume, quality and value measures.

Instead, understand the value of visitors, by channel based on setting goals for lead or sign-up at the minimum, ideally link it to conversion. Worst case you can tie your overall traffic mix to sales, best case you understand sales by channel. Prepare for the tricky discussion of what channel gets the credit – last or first referring, or is the mix credited accordingly!? Keep it simple initially and pick one.

Take a look our Eretail KPI post to help with further ideas on the key measures:

Question 2. What is the right mix of paid, owned and earned media to meet our goals?

You can see from our diagram below the benefits of using the full range of media available today in maximising the overlap between the three different types of media. Achieving this overlap requires the integration of acquisition campaigns. Content on your blog or hub site can be broken down and re-shared into other media types, maybe even directly through APIs such as the Facebook API if not by a considered process to social media marketing. It’s useful to also think of a company’s own presence as ‘media’ in this sense – these being an alternative investment to other media that offer opportunities to promote products using ad or editorial formats.

The one-line take-away is to ensure that there’s emphasis on a plan to become multi-channel publishers, and stop separating ‘media’ from ‘social or online PR’.

For more details, you can read our full post explaining explaining paid vs owned vs earned media.

Question 3. Have we maximised the efficiency of each channel, including channel mix?

Though we want more traffic, and we’re assuming that its commercial value is understood and benchmarked, the traffic mix is important since it helps manage against weaknesses and highlight new opportunities for growth. There’s a risk if “too many of your eggs are in one basket”, particularly on natural search reliance as Google changes its algorithms…

There are all kinds of complexities that can affect reporting on traffic mix, where too much is tagged as “direct” or “other” due to emails or campaigns not being properly tagged. The key thing is that once traffic mix is on your agenda you can spot changes and start to manage the mix. Ask where you’re over-reliant first and foremost, for example maybe you’re over-reliant on paid media or affiliate/partner sites. And, more logically you can spot opportunities if you compare to industry media mix averages like the one from Google shown below. Ask are you getting enough (commercially relevant) traffic from social media or influential industry sites, maybe that would highlight opportunities to consider a tactical or campaign focus within LinkedIn.

The “right mix” will vary drastically between types of sites, for example e-commerce vs publishing platforms, and of course by industry where the types of users differ.

Question 4. Who are we targeting and what are the core messages that we need to communicate?

The key take-away here surround what Joe Pullizi calls the “intersection between what a brand wants to communicate, and what the user wants to find, solve or hear”. It sounds dead simple, it is really, yet how many brands communicate only what they want to sell, then worse assume that every buyer thinks like they do – and even worse assumes that all personas are ready to buy today.

You are not the consumer! Instead, start by using your internal knowledge to identify web personas (“a summary of the characteristics, needs, motivations and environment of typical web site users“). Think about the buyer stages too, often referred to as the ‘scenario’, for example I want to research about product X or understand if I actually have a need in the first place.

Overlay the messages that you want to communicate to those buyers, you might consider some simple customer research to identify or confirm what you really understand the motivations behind each of those persona types.

As a result of the work, and in the same vein, be sure look at how you may tighten your site’s online value proposition. Ever been to a web site and wondered ‘Why am I here?’, ‘How does this help me?‘ or ‘Does this site give me what I need?’. And then left shortly afterwards? That’s why the top-level benefit or message needs to be absolutely clear to site visitors, especially first time visitors.

Read more about developing your online value proposition and browse a few web proposition examples.

Question 5. Are we putting sufficient time into identifying and then managing relationships with partners and influencers?

With a hub and spoke model in mind, your site being the hub, influencers exist on different spokes. Our social radar diagram (below) helps you think that through and prioritise different outposts, some of which will be more powerful influencers. Our radar was inspired by Brian Solis’ Conversion Prism, but we found it unclear, if not beautifully designed.

Once identified, true influencers and partner sites need to be treated with the respect they deserve, your business is effectively in a relationship, and like any relationship it develops over time and is based on respect, trust and a lot of giving. You wouldn’t expect a relationship to develop any other way.

Read our tips on developing influencers here.

Question 6. How do we integrate acquisition channels and manage customer journeys to maximise effectiveness?

I think there are two dimensions to this, at least obvious ones. On the one hand you need to mine the data, to understand what is influencing purchase versus what is influencing lead generation versus traffic, on the other hand it’s about understanding your consumer, those personas and appreciating the stages of purchase and designing that in to your communications, channels and website over the whole buy cycle.

Primarily, there’s the need to be findable in multiple places by those personas at the various buyer stages – the buyer stages where giving you personal data is of little interest, and exploring impartial industry sources is! For example certain outposts or influencer sites will lend themselves to those exploring a topic, ideally those outposts will have a good search results presence on keywords that maybe you don’t. As the user progresses to exploring your product area, or even brand name they’ll progress to review sites and in turn your site which would also cater for more than one “buyer type”. This works just the same offline, industry journals or consumer magazines are places where great content, well-PR’d come into their own.

With your site in mind, signing up for a well considered ebook might be ‘step 1’ for people who are exploring a pain point and defining their needs. You’d expect to the need to re-market them and earn permission to sell via email, maybe driving that prospect to a webinar where you may actually acquire a lead in the true sense. The key take-away – get close the how your personas types journey from browse – research – compare – buy.

Check out Dave’s notes from Kevin Hillstrom on multichannel marketing.

Question 7. Is our social presence effective and are we measuring reputation?

Irrespective of the type of goals that you have. Web analytics and social media monitoring tools can combine to enable you to measure what matters to you at any given time. You can also monitor softer but important KPIs, such as positive brand sentiment. Our post on the IAB social media measurement framework summarised our perspective on the approach being developed by the IAB Social Media Council, their presentation is below.

We also presented an alternative approach focussing on 6 key metrics:

Gross views on main networks network and own blog/community

Connections or subscribers on main networks

Social media referrers – visits to site measured through web analytics and where necessary campaign tracking tags

Social media conversions – conversion to goals or sales measured through web analytics

A framework for measuring social media activity

How do our seven questions measure up for you? Anything that we can improve upon?

Why Is My Ssd Slow? How To Speed It Up

Most people buy SSDs for their speed because they are significantly faster than HDDs. When your SSD isn’t transferring and storing data as fast as you’d hoped, it might not be that the drive itself is slow. A problem or an incorrect setting could prevent the drive from using its full potential speed, and you can increase the speed by fixing the issue.

A few likely causes are probably behind the slow performance of your SSD. While there are always niche problems that can be at fault, it’s probably due to one of the following factors.

Storage Full: SSDs are more impacted than HDDs by nearing capacity. As your drive fills up, expect a performance decrease, especially if you need to move files to another drive to maintain at least 30 percent of available storage.

Inappropriate Storage Configuration: Many settings on Windows govern how your hard drives work. If a particular setting isn’t correct, it could impact the drive’s performance. It’s critical to have your options selected for the specific drive you’re using instead of using settings that were better for an old one.

Faulty Hardware: Some issues with your system that aren’t directly related to your SSD and its settings can also slow its performance. Specific hardware problems can prevent the SSD from performing at its swiftest speed.

PC Bottlenecking: You might be experiencing a bottleneck caused by another computer component. In this case, the SSD’s performance is slow because it has to wait on another part to finish its work and move to the next task.

Whatever is slowing your SSD, there’s probably something you can do to improve its performance and enhance your system’s speed.

When your SSD is slow, you’ll notice a few different things.

You want the full potential speed of your SSD and making sure nothing is interfering with it will help you get it.

To discover why your SSD is slow, troubleshoot potential causes of slowdowns and remedy them.

Two utilities that might help you find the cause of your slow SSD are CHKDSK and System File Checker. One looks for problems with your hard drive and attempts to repair them. The other examines your system files to make sure they’re all in place and in good condition.

If either scan found errors, they could be the reason for a slow SSD.

Another thing you can do to make sure there are no problems with your system is to update Windows and run a virus scan. A virus can lurk silently on your computer and cause all kinds of issues – like SSD slowness – without ever letting you know it’s there directly.

Once Windows is fully updated, return to the Settings page to run a virus scan with the built-in Windows antivirus software.

Once you’re sure your system is updated and functioning correctly, there are no viruses, and the drive is error-free, you can explore other avenues to find a solution to the SSD’s slow speed.

The drivers for your SSD should both be updated. Updated drivers can fix problems that cause issues like slower speeds.

If there was an updated driver, the SSD might work faster now.

Picture the tasks your computer does as a river, and each piece of hardware as its own section in the river, one after the other. Where the river is wider, more water can pass through. Where it’s thinner, less water flows. The same principle applies to your PC’s jobs and the hardware you have.

If you have a great hard drive but an older, slower CPU, the CPU might be a narrow part of your computer’s workflow. The drive can only process tasks once the tasks being done by connected hardware are completed. In the case of the SSD, the most likely parts that could bottleneck your system are the CPU and RAM.

Check for the RAM and CPU usage when your drive speed seems low. For example, if it’s lagging in games, do this during a game when you notice the lag.

If either the CPU or the Memory seems to come close to maxing out, they may be the cause of the slowness instead of the SSD. You may have to upgrade your hardware to reduce the bottleneck.

Another common problem that slows down solid-state drives is having too much on them. Keep your SSD below 75 percent capacity by off-loading files that don’t require the speed of the SSD to another storage drive.

If you have too many files, delete them or move them to another drive. You could also utilize online cloud backup if needed.

AHCI mode is the Advanced Host Controller Interface mode, and it’s a newer, faster protocol for SATA configuration than what came before. If your BIOS uses a different protocol, it might explain the slow SSD speeds.

If you’re comfortable opening your computer, check a few things out in case of problems with the drive itself or connected hardware.

Any of these issues may slow down your SSD. If you find problems with it, you may have to replace a cable or use a different port to restore your speed.

How To Increase Vram Or Dedicated Video Memory?

How to Increase VRAM or Dedicated Video Memory? What is VRAM or Dedicated Video RAM?

Like RAM momentarily stores the temporary data relating to the program to make it quickly accessible when required by the CPU, VRAM stores the data regarding the GRAPHICAL part of the program to render high-quality images quickly which would otherwise have taken much more time. More VRAM means higher FPS while Gaming, High-Quality graphics in everything, etc.

While RAM relates to CPU, VRAM relates to GPU in totally different ways. High-end PCs have Dedicated Graphics Cards that contain VRAM or Dedicated Video Memory to help in high-end video output.

How to find out the amount Dedicated Video RAM your PC has?

Before we move forward to learn ‘How to Increase VRAM’, let us first determine how much Dedicated VRAM you currently have. To do so, follow the steps given below:

Step 2: Scroll down in the Display menu to find Advanced Display Settings.

Note:

Dedicated VRAM is the space that will only be used for the Graphical Purposes.

Shared System Memory is the RAM that is used for both Graphical and Non-Graphical Purposes according to need.

Total Available Graphics Memory is the sum total of both Dedicated VRAM and Shared System memory.

Now that you know how much Dedicated Video RAM your PC has, let’s move forward and see How to Increase VRAM or Dedicated Video RAM on Windows 10?

How to Increase VRAM or Dedicated Video RAM on Windows 10?

There are three different methods to Increase VRAM on your PC; One is through the Registry Editor, Second is through BIOS, and the third one is through the Control Panel.

1.  How to Increase VRAM through the Registry Editor?

The point to note before we begin is that this method works only with Intel Integrated GPU (which is most likely the case if you are reading this article). Follow the steps given below to increase VRAM through Registry Editor:

Step 1: Open Run Command dialog box by pressing Windows Key + R. Type Command ‘regedit’and hit Enter.

Step 5: Rename the newly created value – “DedicatedSegmentSize”.

Step 7: Restart your PC and Voila, you have allocated more Dedicated RAM to your PC for smoother Graphics.

2. How to Increase VRAM through BIOS?

Another Method that can help you increase the amount of dedicated VRAM is via BIOS. In order to increase Video RAM via BIOS, follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Restart your PC and enter BIOS.

Note: You can access BIOS by repeatedly pressing BIOS Key while the computer is restarting. BIOS Key usually is F2, F5, F8, or DEL Key. BIOS keys differ from System to System. You can either follow the trial and error method or you can search for the specific key to enter the BIOS menu on the Web.

Step 2: In the BIOS Menu, Look for “Advanced” or “Advanced Options” or something similar.

Note: Not all BIOS menus look the same and hence, it will require you to find out the relevant menu on your own.

Step 3: Once you have entered the “Advanced Options”, look for “VGA SHARE MEMORY SIZE, GRAPHICS SETTINGS, VIDEO SETTINGS, or Something similar.

Step 5: Save the Changes and Restart the PC.

Step 6: You should now have the Increased Dedicated Video RAM. You can check if that’s really the case with the help of steps explained above in the beginning.

Voila, you now have the extended Dedicated Video RAM for smoother Graphics and Higher FPS while gaming.

3. How to Increase RAM through Control Panel?

The third and final method to increase VRAM is through the Control Panel. I would suggest that you first try the methods mentioned above before trying this. To increase VRAM or Dedicated Video RAM, follow the steps given below:

Step 3: In the newly opened System Properties dialog box, go to Advanced and Choose Settings in the Performance Section.

Step 5: A new Virtual Memory dialog box will open. Uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.

Step 6: Select C Drive and input following value in the Custom Size Field.

Voila, you have successfully increased the size of Dedicated Video RAM on your Windows 10 PC. So, these are all the three methods that you can use to increase VRAM on your PC.

But there is no Guarantee or Surety that these steps will be able to help solve your problem once and for all. The purpose you may require VRAM for may need more than just a hike in RAM. What can you do if these methods don’t work?

What can you do if the above-mentioned methods don’t work?

As we mentioned earlier, VRAM is an absolute requirement if you are trying to run some graphics intensive task on your PC like editing High-Resolution Videos, Using 3D Graphical Software, Gaming, etc.

Increasing VRAM through BIOS and Registry Editor can surely help sometimes. Especially in the case where everything already seems to be running fine and you just need an extra bit of Graphical performance from your PC for the seamless performance.

However, these methods may not work in other cases where the program doesn’t even run without allocating VRAM. In those cases, upgrading to a Dedicated GPU or Graphics Card is the ultimate solution. A Dedicated Graphics Card provides the real horse power needed to run some really graphically demanding programs and software.

Graphic Cards vary in specs, horsepower, and price. One graphic card can’t be the ultimate solution for all the different kinds of user. If you need help in choosing the right GPU for you, you may want to consider reading this article – Best Graphics Cards February 2023.

How To Increase Browser Cache Size For Better Performance

A browser cache is a storage area for data that computers use to speed up the process of loading webpages. It saves downloaded web page resources, such as images, videos, CSS, Javascript, and so on. The next time you visit the page, those resources are already there. In short, the browser cache allows your browser to load the page more quickly.

If your cache fills up, your browser can bog down. A variety of problems may occur, such as pages loading more slowly or incompletely. To solve this problem, you can delete all the information in the cache. Doing that speeds up your computer, but now your loading speeds slow down. Alternatively, you can increase your browser cache size.

How to increase browser cache size

Follow the steps below to increase the browser cache size in several of the common browsers you may be using.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome doesn’t provide a way for you to easily change the size of the browser cache. Here’s the workaround for Chrome in Windows:

3. In the Target field, add --disk-cache-size=1073741824 (with the number representing the size of the cache you want in bytes. 1kilobyte = 1024 bytes) to the end of the path. Leave a space after the quotation marks at the end of the existing text before adding this information.

This trick should work for most Chromium-based browsers.

Firefox

The Mozilla Firefox browser does have a user interface to access the size of the cache and change it if necessary. Here’s how.

1. Open the Firefox browser.

2. Type about:config into the address bar.
