How to Add Borders to Photos on iPad and iPhone

Open the Photos app on the iPhone or iPad and choose the picture you want to add a border to so that it’s the primary image on the screen

Tap the “Edit” button in the corner

Next, tap the (…) three periods button

Now tap on the “Markup” button

Once in Markup, tap on the (+) plus button

From the element options, tap on the square

This places a black square on the image, while the square is selected you can tap the color options to change the border color, and you can tap the little square / circle button in the corner to change the thickness of the border matte if desired

Now tap and drag on the blue dots on the square to adjust the box so that it’s at the edge of where you want the photo border to be

Tap on “Done” when satisfied with the placement of the square border

Now tap on the Crop button, it looks like a square with some arrows rotating around it

Drag the crop selector handles so that they are aligned with the outside square border you just placed, then tap on “Done”

That’s it, you’ve drawn a border onto the photo from iOS!

In the example images used in this tutorial, we used an iPad to place a black border around a photo, but you can use any other color for the border by using the color wheel selector or by tapping the other color options if you’d like to.

Two of the most common color borders to add to photos are black or white, which are commonly used in photography mattes. Adding white borders or black borders to a picture is often referred to as ‘matting’, and is usually aimed to bring out a particular color or add a particular feel to the image contained within the border matte.

In this particular case the relative thickness of the border may be inadequate for some users needs, as often a photo matte is much thicker. Of course you could just keep placing additional squares around the image each sized appropriately and with the same color, but if you’re going that route you might be better off just getting a dedicated app to add borders to images.

The video embedded below demonstrates this process of adding a border to a picture with this trick on an iPad, it works the same on iPhone too:

This is obviously just a creative use of the Markup drawing tools and Crop photo function, and it’s not an official matting or border method (currently there does not appear to be one, perhaps a future iOS release will include an ‘add border’ capability to the Photos app), but if you don’t mind thinner borders and matting and placing them on a picture yourself as instructed here, it does the job.

The Markup feature of Photos is really great, you can use it to draw and write on photos, fill out PDF forms, add signatures to documents, and much more. While this tip obviously focuses on using this Markup feature on iPad and iPhone, you can perform the same functions on a Mac too if it’s running a modern MacOS release with Markup support.

How To Add A Border In Canva (To Images, Shapes & Text!)

With the help of Canva, adding a border is easy and will give a basic picture or design a fun and professional touch. This is possible with minimal design experience or skills required.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how easy creating a border can be, along with tips to add a border to text, shapes, and cut-out images in Canva.

Let’s get started!

How To Border A Design In Canva

There are a few ways you can add a border to your design in Canva. Some people take the time to create their own borders using basic elements, and others import custom-made borders.

For now, let’s talk about the most time-effective way to create one.

Step 1: Search For “Borders”

You can create a border using basic elements. However, searching for a completed frame in Canva’s collection of elements is much faster.

Step 2: Find The Perfect Border

There are two different types of borders that you can find in Canva: Graphic borders and Photo borders. Both types have their strengths and weaknesses.

In the Photos section, you will find a ton of detailed borders that would take a long time to create if you were to make them yourself.

Unfortunately, there is a downside to the photo borders.

These borders are useful if your frame size is the same as your design. If the two sizes don’t match or even come close, it is tough to stretch the border to fit your design.

So instead, graphic borders are often the best way to go, as you have more options to customize your border.

Step 3: Pick Your Border Color

When you add your border to your canvas, there’s a good chance it won’t be the correct color.

Step 4: Rotate Your Border

There will also be times when you will need to adjust the positioning of your border. You can do this with the Rotate button.

Select your border to reveal the Rotate button. It will either be at the bottom of your border or on one of the sides.

Step 5: Strech Out Your Border

The last step in this process is stretching your border in place.

Line your border up to one of the corners of your design. Then pull the opposite corner handle toward the opposite side of your design.

If the border doesn’t fit, you may have to adjust the border slightly with the other side handles. If this doesn’t work, you may have to search for another border.

How To Border An Image In Canva

Creating a border around a specific image is a bit more complicated, but it’s worth the trouble. There are a lot of designers who won’t take the time to use the technique I’m about to show you. That just means that your design will stand out more than the others.

Step 1: Duplicate Your Image

Before you duplicate your image, if you have a border around your design that’s in the way, you should quickly move it. The best way to do that is to make a page below your current one, then drag your border to that page.

You can drag your border back to your current page after you’ve finished your edits.

Delete all the other elements of your current design on the duplicated copy, so only the image remains.

Step 2: Use The Background Remover To Isolate Your Image

To create the appearance of a border around a specific part of your image, you need to erase everything that surrounds that specific part. That’s where the background remover comes in.

Note: The background remover is only available to Canva Pro users. If you do not have Canva Pro, you will have to remove the background of your image with another program.

Canva will get to work immediately. Removing the background from your image will take only a few seconds.

Canva usually does a good job of removing your background. If something goes wrong, you can fix any problems that Canva may have made with the Erase and Restore buttons.

Step 3: Add A Background Behind Your Cut-Out Image

If you envision your border being white or any light color, you will want to add a small background behind your cut-out image. This will help you see your border while you are editing it later.

Note: If you plan for your border to be dark, you can skip this step.

Stretch the square, so it covers the entire cut-out image.

Step 4: Add The “Glow” Effect To Your Image  Step 5: Adjust The Glow Effect

For Transparency, make sure to adjust the slider to 100. This slider affects how much you can see through your border.

Set the Blur to 0. You don’t want any blur to your border, at least at first.

With your Transparency and Blur set, you can change the color of your border with the Color Picker.

The last option to adjust is the size of your border. This option depends on your image and how you want your final design to look. You can change the size of your border with the Size slider.

One last step thing. Sometimes the edges of your border feel a bit jaggy. To fix this, adjust the Blur slider to a 1 or a 2. Anything more than that will create too much blur and potentially ruin the effect.

Step 6: Drag Your Cut-Out Image To Your Original Page

The border around your image is now complete. You can now drag your cut-out image from page 2 to page 1.

You should easily place your cut-out image on top of the original.

Step 7: Move The Border For Your Image Back In Place

You can now drag your main border back to your design. It should be easy to put it back in place.

Creating Borders Around Text & Shapes In Canva

It’s easy to think that adding a border to text and shapes is the same process as adding a border to your project or image. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Both text and shapes have more steps/different steps to add a border.

Adding A Border To A Shape

If you select your shape, you’ll notice that the edit button is missing. This is because only images can reveal the Edit Image button.

So if you have a shape that you want to add a border to, you will first need to convert the shape element to an image.

Select and delete every element on the duplicated page except for the shape to which you want to add a border.

If your shape is white, it can be tough to see against the blank background. Select it to reveal a purple outline. This will confirm that your shape is the only element left on the page.

Now that your image is on the canvas, you can delete the original shape.

Next, line your image up with the corner of your design. Then pull the opposite corner handle to the opposite corner of your design.

Your image should fill the area perfectly.

Now that your image is in place, you can treat it like any other image to which you would add a border.

In the settings, make sure the Transparency is 100, and the Blur is 0 (or 1 or 2). Pick out the color of your border, and adjust the size to your liking.

You now have a border around your shape that fits it perfectly. This technique will work even with the most bizarre shapes you can create.

Adding A Border To Text

Adding a border to a text element is entirely different from other elements.

The Splice effect works by creating a shadow with no transparency at a 45-degree angle off of your text.

To pull off the effect of a border around your text, ensure that the Offset setting is set to 0.

Now the shadow part of the splice effect is in the center of your text. Use the Color Picker to set a color for the center of your text.

As for the other settings, you can leave the Direction setting alone. For the Thickness, adjust this setting to what works best for you.

You now know how to add a border to your design, an image, a shape, and text.

How To Delete Duplicate Burst Photos On Iphone

If you’ve been using “Burst Mode” on your iPhone, you have hundreds (if not thousands) of duplicate photos. Therefore, let’s take a look at how to delete duplicate burst photos on your iPhone, helping you reclaim some much-needed free space.

Delete Duplicate Burst Photos on iPhone

As you can imagine, we are using the Photos app to control your gallery of burst photos. Below is the complete step-by-step guide.

3. When you take burst photos, the Photos app will present them as a single photo via its interface. If you take a close look at your gallery, you’ll see that your burst photos are slightly different than the rest. Go ahead and pick the individual gallery of burst photos you’d like to edit.

4. Take a look at the bottom-positioned toolbar. You’ll see three icons along with an option for “Select.” Tap on that to enter the chosen burst photo gallery.

5. You should see your entire burst photo gallery. Scroll left and right to see all of the images found within that single gallery. Also, notice a series of small empty circles in each photo’s bottom-right corner.

6. Feel free to scroll left or right, then tap on the images you’d like to keep. When you select them, you’re instructing the Photos app to mark them as your favorites. This is an important step when it comes to deleting duplicate burst photos on your iPhone.

7. Once you’re happy with your selections, tap on “Done” (visible in the top-right corner). You should see a pop-up menu at the bottom of your iPhone’s screen.

8. To keep the images you’ve previously selected, make sure to tap on “Keep Only Favorites.” This will prompt the Photos app to delete the images you didn’t select.

Return to the Photos app, where you’ll find the previously selected burst photos as individual photos. In other words, they will no longer be a part of a single burst photo gallery. This doesn’t only make it easier to organize and edit your library but falso helps with your iPhone’s storage.

Photo Stream Not Working On Iphone Or Ipad: How To Fix It

One feature that made a ton of difference to how you shared photos from within the Photos app on your iPhone was Photo Stream. It came about at a time when Facebook and Instagram were at the peak of their photo-sharing features, and Apple made it simple and easy for iOS users to share their photos with other iOS and macOS users.

Photo Stream is a cool idea and a cool feature. I wouldn’t call it a flawed execution at all because every feature that Apple brings in comes with its own set of problems: iCloud, FaceTime, iMessage, and of course, Photo Stream.

How to Fix “My Photo Stream Not Working” on iPhone and iPad

Sometimes photos you added to a stream on your iPhone don’t sync and show up on the iPad

At times, Photo Stream doesn’t even recognize that you’ve taken photos (and so doesn’t add them to the stream library)

Or at other times, Photo Stream just doesn’t work. WiFi issues notwithstanding, Photos aren’t added to your Mac/PC when you add them to the Photo Stream library on your iDevice

We’ll take a look at how you can fix the Photo Stream not working issue. Remember, this is a broad solution channel, and you might have to try them all before Photo Stream gets fixed.

Solution #1. 20% Battery Rule

One of the first things you’ll notice on FAQs on Apple (for Photo Stream) is this rule: you’ll need to have more than 20% battery for Photo Stream to work. This means… well, you know what this means. Charge up your iPhone before you even think about Photo Stream. Make sure there’s enough battery and a good, solid Wi-fi network (or LTE, but WiFi is preferred always).

Solution #2. Read-only Permissions

Did you change the default folder for Photo Stream in Windows (via iCloud Control Panel)? Well, that’s going to be a problem.

If you change the folder to someplace else, do this:

Read-only permissions can be a pain, especially in Windows. And since Apple uses an external service to modify the content of your Photo Stream, you’ll definitely need to make sure it’s not read-only.

Solution #3. Close Camera App

If you don’t close your camera app, you’re going to have a bad time with Photo Stream sync.

Photo Stream is made to work that way: it’s only when you close the camera that the photos automatically get synced to the Photo Stream and then finally to all your iDevices. No, this doesn’t mean you press the home button after using the camera, and then you run to check the Photo Stream on your iPad.

It means you double-press the home button, and swipe-up the camera app to close it. Whoosh! Your photos should be up there on the Photo Stream. Give it a few minutes, and they should be on all connected devices.

Solution #4. Enable Photo Stream Under Settings, iCloud

Oh, this is such a plain thing. But then, it’s probably not.

Photo Stream needs to be enabled at two (minimum) places in your iDevice.

(a) iCloud

Go to Settings

Tap on Your Name at the top of the list

Tap on iCloud → Photos

Make sure it’s ON

For good measure, enable Shared Photo Streams too

(b) Settings

Go to Settings

Scroll down and tap on Photos

Turn ON “My Photo Stream” if it isn’t already

Turn on “Shared Albums” too for good measure (believe me, this is what triggered the Photo Stream for me although I do entirely doubt the link between this and Photo Stream sync)

Solution #5. Reboot and Reconnect to Wi-Fi

The plain old method is to just reboot the phone.

Or give it a hard reset.

Also, disconnect from Wi-fi from devices where the Photo Stream isn’t synced and then re-connect. For good measure, do the ‘forget network’ routine and re-add the network.

Alright and all done, buddy, but the whole thing still doesn’t work. What to do then?

Signing off

Of course, restore is not an option if it’s just Photo Stream that ain’t working. I’ll give the “are you kidding me?” look if someone tells me I’ll have to restore my iPhone just because Photo Stream doesn’t work for a while. I’ll just do the ON-OFF toggle and then delete/create albums in Photo Stream till it resumes normal functioning, then restore my iPhone.

Once you have reached the level five in Pokémon, you would have to join a team and indulge into the thrilling Gym fight. (Assuming you have travelled this far and are all geared up to smash your opponents.) This is where you will win PokéCoins.

Step #1. Starting off, you have to find a gym and then use your superiority to take it down or fortify it to put your Pokémon in the Gym.

Step #2. Based on how many Pokémons you have in the Gym, you would be given an equal number of PokéCoins.

Step #3. To get the free PokéCoins, tap on the Pokeball at the bottom.

Step #4. Tap on Shop in the menu.

Step #5. Next, you will have to tap on the button at the top right corner.

Once in every 21 hours, you will be able to get the PokéCoins. If you don’t have any Gym, you won’t be given any PokéCoins.

If you succeed in maximizing your expertise, you can even earn up to 100 PokéCoins and 5000 Stardust every 21 hours.
