Intel’s Project Athena created a lot of hype in the tech world. But how does Project Athena make laptops better? Read on to learn more.

What is Project Athena and how it affects me?

But what is Project Athena? Well, it’s a collaboration between Intel and the biggest laptop manufacturers in the industry to create the laptops of the future.

The main goal is to create improved laptop hardware and software, and offer certitude to users.

Remember ultrabooks from back in the day when they first launched? It’s a similar story, but with a lot more guarantees from Intel and OEM manufacturers.

If you’re a normal Windows 10 user or even if you’re a power user, this is great news for you. Project Athena will have some important standards that will have to be met by the laptops.

That means improved performance, faster boot time and startup, stable connections, and enhanced battery life.

Along with all these, there will be an updated annual platform requirements standard, continuous collaboration in an open ecosystem, a comprehensive certification process, and real-world benchmarking.

You’ll no longer see shady benchmarks with the brightness all the way down, no Wi-Fi, muted sound, and very little to none CPU usage. No one uses their laptop this way.

The benchmarks on Windows 10 will be in real-world condition, with real tasks, as a normal user would have.

Speaking of benchmarks, download one of these tools if you want to test your PC’s performance.

This means that when you buy a Project Athena certified laptop, you can expect that the claims regarding speed and battery life are accurate.

If I’m just a normal Windows 10 user, what’s in it for me?

Some of the most important features you can expect on Windows 10 are:

Instant-on: inspired by the mobile world, Intel is aiming at a minimum to none boot time. In theory, your Windows 10 laptop should power on instantly, with all the connections available right away.

5G connectivity: all the Athena certified laptops will come with fast, reliable, 5G connectivity.

Intel hardware: the certified laptops will also feature the latest and greatest. This means the fastest SSD storage and support for WI-FI 6, along with the latest hardware available.

Longer battery life: Intel is aiming at a standard of 9 hours. While this might not seem so impressive, you’ll have to keep in mind that it’s not just a spec on a sheet, but a real-world number that every user owning an Athena certified laptop should achieve.

We also have to mention that not all laptops will be Athena certified. Only those who meet the standards and offer the best experience will pass.

You can expect to see some Project Athena certified laptops to start rolling out in Q3 and Q4 of 2023, but the majority will be launched next year.

If you’re an Windows 10 user, expect great things in the near future. The guarantees that Athena is offering along with the OS optimizations from Microsoft is a big win for everyone, especially for the average buyer.

Opening your PC with Windows Hello will be faster than ever, running Windows 10 apps from the fastest SSD will also be cool, and downloading and uploading on WI-FI 6 will be crazy fast.

This is pretty exciting news. A powerful laptop paired with the latest Windows 10? That sound like a great package, thanks to Intel and Microsoft.

All that remains is to actually test these laptops with Windows 10 on your own.

Are you as excited as we are? Does this new laptop standard means something to you or do you think that it won’t have such a big impact?

Here’s How Windows 10’S Ubuntu

Linux’s Bash shell is coming to Windows, courtesy of a collaboration between Microsoft and Ubuntu-creator Canonical. Type bash into Windows 10’s Start menu, and you’ll be able to instantly get a full Linux command-line environment.

It’s not a virtual machine or container

Before this, you could use Bash on Windows, but through heavy virtual machines or by remotely accessing a Bash session running on a remote server somewhere. There’s also Cygwin, a hacky solution featuring a variety of Linux tools recompiled for Windows. Many people assumed Windows 10’s rumored Linux compatibility would be something along these lines. But they were wrong. It’s more awesome.

This solution will be an app available in the Windows Store, and it will provide a full Ubuntu image that runs in userspace as a program on your desktop. Programs compiled for Linux will just run without even needing to be recompiled for Windows. You can use Ubuntu’s apt-get command to download and install programs, and it’ll just work. Developers can write Bash scripts and run them on Windows. It’s reportedly just as fast as running the same utilities natively on Ubuntu Linux.

This is all thanks to a new subsystem quietly placed into Windows 10 build 14251 back in January. The chúng tôi and chúng tôi files form the new “Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).”

Canonical’s Dustin Kirkland is thrilled about the technology, and explains it this way: “A team of sharp developers at Microsoft has been hard at work adapting some Microsoft research technology to basically perform real time translation of Linux syscalls into Windows OS syscalls. Linux geeks can think of it as sort of the inverse of ‘wine’—Ubuntu binaries running natively in Windows.”

Dustin Kirkland

Apt-get works just like it does on Ubuntu, with access to the same software packages.

Microsoft’s solution is surprisingly capable. You get the exact same Linux utilities and they’ll run on your Windows system directly. Although Bash is sandboxed, you can access your file system via the shell and work with the files and folders on your computer. Both your Linux utilities and Windows programs will have access to the same set of files.

As Microsoft notes, “This is a developer toolset to help you write and build all your code for all your scenarios and platforms.” It’s not a full Ubuntu virtual machine. You can’t use it to host servers, as you could on Linux. If you need that, you can always install Linux in a virtual machine using Microsoft’s Hyper-V technology, VirtualBox, VMware, or something similar.”

Lastly, these Bash tools won’t be able to interact directly with any Windows tools. You can’t run a Bash command from PowerShell, or a Windows command from within Bash. This means you can’t use Bash scripts to automate Windows commands, unfortunately. Bash command-line tools get access to the same files Windows does, but that’s it!

Bash commands can interact with your normal Windows file system.

Here’s how you can get it

An Ubuntu 14.04 LTS-based Bash application will shortly be added to the Windows Store, followed by a Ubuntu 16.04 LTS-based application once Ubuntu 16.04 LTS launches on April 21.

Want to learn more? There’s a lot of information out there now. Microsoft’s announcement covers the basics and Microsoft’s Scott Hanselman provides some background. Canonical’s Dustin Kirkland provides an explanation targeted at readers familiar with Linux. You can also watch an informative 30-minute video featuring Hanselman, Kirkland, and others who worked on the project.

Windows 11 Will Support Android Apps: Here’s What You Need To Know

Windows 11 Will Support Android Apps: Here’s What You Need To Know

To run Android apps on your Windows 11 PC or laptop, you won’t need an emulator like Bluestacks or the YourPhone App (That lets you run Android apps on Windows PC provided you have a Samsung Galaxy with the right specs to go with). Why? Because these Android apps will be able to run natively.

So, does that mean Microsoft has gotten into a partnership with Google to have Google Play Store on Windows? The answer is no!

What’s This Upgrade All About?

Soon you might want to bid adieu to your Windows 10 and say high to Windows 11. One reason being that if you are a licensed Windows 10 user, the new upgrade will be free. And, if you want to dive deeper and want to check if your current version of Windows 10 is all set for the update, do check this post. And, if your Windows 10 is eligible, you are in for a treat!

Key Points

You will be able to enjoy Android apps on Windows 11

Intel’s Bridge Technology will make it possible

You could find apps in Start Menu or even pin them to the Taskbar

You could download Android apps from Amazon Play Store

How Will Android Apps Work On Windows 11?

The Android apps will run natively on Windows 11, thanks to Intel’s Bridge Technology which is a run time post compiler that allows non-native applications to run natively on x86 processors. Intel also confirmed that not only will Intel bridge support the x86 platform, it will also support AMD and ARM platforms as well. That means Android apps will work on Intel 10th and 11th generation processors as well as AMD processors.

Here’s how you will be able to get and run Android apps on Windows 11 – you will need to install the Amazon app store, a strong alternative to Google Play Store. You will be able to find the app store integrated into the new Microsoft Store. There is no denying the fact that despite being strong alternatives to Google Play Store, Microsoft Store, and  Amazon’s Fire Tablet (That run on a modified Android) both have holes, yet, this merger will surely bring them benefits. And, Microsoft has already promised that it will make it easier for developers to get their apps in the Microsoft Store.

The Downside

Not every Android app or game in the Amazon Appstore will run on Windows 11 at least for a moment. So, how would a user quench the thirst for an app that’s not there on Amazon Play Store? Will it be possible to get third-party Android packages, which are more popularly known as APKs? And, if yes (and as many executives believe it to be), won’t that jeopardize your Windows computer and your Android’s safety.  There are many such questions on which clarity is still to be attained.

Crypto Investors Will Make Millions With Budblockz And Tezos. Here’s Why

Cryptocurrencies have had a catalyzing effect on the financial services market as they enable investors across the world to hold a more active role in the investment process. With blockchain-based assets like cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), users don’t have to depend on financial institutions like banks or brokerage firms to handle their money. BudBlockz (BLUNT) and Tezos (XTZ) are two crypto assets that could potentially provide huge returns in the future.

BudBlockz: Giving the cannabis industry a professional touch with blockchain

BudBlockz is an Ethereum-compatible platform that connects enthusiasts and entrepreneurs with the international cannabis market in a legal and secure way. The platform aims to catalyze the sector by pushing research and product development, boosting market accessibility, and spreading awareness about the industry.

Over time, it will be assisting marijuana firms and entrepreneurs in tackling issues like raising finances, seed-to-sale tracking, logistical issues and data management. It has also rolled out a native token for its network called BLUNT, which will be used for all transactional purposes on the platform. The token is built on the ERC-21 standard and is deflationary. Hence, the platform regularly burns tokens to keep their supply scarce. The platform has capped the supply of the BLUNT Token at 420,000,000 and the biggest share of the token supply will be allocated for presale (25.6%).

Another major attraction of the platform is its NFT series called the ‘Ganja Guruz’ collection, which comprises digital artworks that are inspired by 1990s video games. With a supply of 10,000, these NFTs are built on the ERC-721 standard. By purchasing these NFTs, users will be able to access a wide range of benefits that include special discounts on BudBlockz products.

By purchasing these NFTs, users can also become fractional owners of the cannabis dispensaries and farms that BudBlockz will be building. These facilities will function like regular assets, wherein users can earn dividends.

If you are someone who is a fan of arcade games, then BudBlockz has a special treat for you. Its play-to-earn ‘BudBlockz Arcade’ includes some of the popular games of 1998 including names from consoles like SNES. Users stand to win exciting rewards as prizes in these games.

Tezos to join Allbridge’s partnership with Quipuswap

Tezos is an open-source blockchain where users can interact with dApps and other decentralized systems. It leverages its niche tools to tackle barriers to blockchain adoption while enabling its users to interact with the network seamlessly. Its native token is XTZ which comes in handy while dealing with all kinds of transactional obligations on the network. With Tezos, users can also build scalable dApps that strike a balance between security and accessibility. The proof-of-stake consensus algorithm facilitates a formal verification schedule for dApps and smart contracts. Also, the fact that it is based on proof-of-staking, energy consumption, and other costs, makes services very affordable on the platform compared to other blockchain networks.

Cryptocurrency analysts believe that of the two, BudBlockz has higher growth potential because of an industry-specific use case that leverages the growing interest in the cannabis sector. Plus, multiple opportunities to earn passive income give investors the right incentive to associate themselves with the platform for the long haul.

How To Make Windows 11 Look Like Windows 10

Windows 11 comes with a fresh new look, and many users like the new interface better than that of Windows 10. Even so, if you find that you’re missing the look and feel of the previous version, you can easily make Windows 11 look like Windows 10. This article explains how.

Create a Restore Point

Before you do anything, it would be wise to create a restore point so that you can quickly revert back to the original look of Windows 11, in case you want to go back at some point.

Now just go ahead and implement the instructions laid out here to change the look and feel of your Windows 11.

1. Adjust Start Menu Location

Windows 11 has the Start menu positioned in the center. If you want to move it to the left, as it is in Windows 10, follow the instructions below:

In the “Taskbar alignment” menu, choose “Left.”

Your Start menu will appear on the left.

2. Change the Start Menu Look

Follow these steps to make the Windows 11 Start menu look like Windows 10:

Download Open-Shell from the GitHub website.

Uncheck the “Classic Explorer” and “Classic IE” options during the installation process.

Once the installation process is complete, open “Open-Shell Menu Settings” by using Windows search. Choose any menu. We’ve selected “Classic with two columns.”

Search for a royalty-free image of the Windows 10 Start menu on the Web or take a quick screenshot of the Start menu if you can access a Windows 10 PC. Resize the image so that it can fit nicely into your taskbar. The Start menu on your Windows 11 PC will look like the following image.

Tip: take a look at what Windows 11’s new context menus have to offer.

3. Get Full Context Menus

If you miss the good old Windows 10 context menus, here’s how to get them back.

Press Windows + R to open the Run window and type regedit in the address bar.

In the Registry Editor, paste the following in the address bar at the top.

Name the new key “{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}”.

Rename the newly created key “InprocServer32.”

4. Get Windows 10 File Explorer

The Windows 10 File Explorer had a ribbon showing menus for easy access. But in Windows 11 File Explorer, many menus are hidden under the ellipses (three-dot) menu.

Earlier, it was easy to bring Windows 10 File Explorer on Windows 11 through registry tweaking. However, after the Windows 11 Version22H2 update, this method stopped working. At this time, the only reliable option to bring back Windows 10 File Explorer is a third-party program.

Download the third-party app StartAllBack and install it on your PC. This is a tool that can revive many things from the previous OS version, such as the old Start Menu, Taskbar elements, Ribbon UI in File Explorer, and more.

Open the StartAllBack application and select the “Kinda 10” option.

Close the program and restart your PC. You will see the classic ribbon UI in File Explorer and many other Windows 10-like UI elements on your PC, such as the Start menu, Taskbar, full context menus, etc.

Note: you can try this tool for free for 100 days but will then need to buy a subscription to continue using it.

5. Use Windows 10 Wallpapers

A default Windows 10 wallpaper can change the appearance of your Windows 11 PC and make it feel more like Windows 10.

If you don’t have access to a Windows 10 PC to get a default Windows 10 wallpaper, you can search the Web. A website like Wallpaper Cave can help you find copies of default Windows 10 wallpapers.

Your Windows 11 PC will show the new wallpaper.

Good to know: alternatively, you can opt for one of these cool 4K destkop backgrounds for Windows.

How to Get the Windows 11 Look Back

If, for whatever reason, you want to go back to the Windows 11 look, follow the below directions.

Press Windows + R to open Run.

Paste rstrui.exe into the address bar and hit “OK.”

The “System Restore” window will open, asking you to choose a restore point. Select the restore point you created before starting the transition.

Follow the on-screen instructions, and your PC will return to the previous state.
