Suggested January 2024 Free Online Screen Recorder To Record Full Screen, Part Screen Or Webcam Activities
We have already seen a few desktop screen recording freeware earlier. But if you are looking for a feature-rich free online screen recorder for Windows, you might want to check out Apowersoft Online Screen Recorder. This free online tool will help you record your screen activities along with the audio track and no lag, and can operate in several ways, and allow you to directly edit the video while you record the screen. Before you read on, you might want to know how to use the webcam to record video using the built-in camera app.
Free Online Screen Recorder Capture Choose full screen or region onlyWith the first method to record your screen, you can choose any region of your screen. This region will then be captured to the final video – optionally together with your live audio track.
Here, it should be noted that this screen recording tool allows you to take any region of the screen as input area, and not just the full screen, which by the way, is also included as an option. The Apowersoft Online Screen Recorder is, therefore, a lot more versatile than, say, Windows Live Movie Maker. The area to record does not even need to be constant at all times. This tool can even capture the screen around your mouse, such that you can navigate dynamically to any area of your screen that you want to show to your audience.
Capture Web Camera activityIn addition to the first method, you can also choose your web camera as the input device. In this case, the screen recorder will be used for capturing webcam activity. You can freely choose any output resolution that seems suitable, such as the full webcam resolution – if you are interested in recording a lossless video. Another possibility would be to choose half the resolution of your webcam. By compressing both the width and the height of the video in half, the size of the video file will actually shrink to a quarter of its size! This way, you can easily create videos that are small enough to be used as a convenient email-attachments.
Using these two methods, this free screen recorder also allows you to create wonderful picture-in-picture videos. It also offers an even broader range of functionality, such as creating scheduled tasks.
Apowersoft Online Screen Recorder appears to be superior to other similar free tools, with its support for a lot more file types, as well as many essential features that are simply missing in others. The output file quality is good too.

Fix Oculus Link Black Screen Or Not Working
Are you facing the black screen problem with the Oculus Link software on Windows PC? Here are the solutions that will help you fix the problem.
Oculus Link is a desktop application that allows users to play Oculus Rift content on Quest 2. However, many Oculus users have reported of being experiencing a black screen whenever they try to launch a VR game. Some of the affected users even experienced the same problem amidst the gameplay. It just makes the entire application unusable. If you are struggling with the same problem, this guide is for you. In this guide, we are going to discuss the solutions that will help you fix the problem on your Windows PC.
What causes the black screen problem with Oculus software? Before we move on to the fixes to resolve the problem, let us try to understand what may cause the black screen issues with Oculus software on Windows. Here are the possible reasons:
The problem might be caused due to faulty and out-of-date graphics, USB, and other device drivers on your PC. If the scenario is applicable, you should try updating your device drivers and then check if the problem is fixed or not.
In case you are using a higher resolution that might be too much for your rig, the black screen problem can occur. You should be able to fix the problem by lowering resolution settings from the Oculus Debug Tool wizard if and only the scenario is applicable.
If you have enabled the in-game overlay feature in your graphics settings, it can be one of the reasons that you are encountering this problem. The in-game overlay is known to interru[t the normal working of games and programs. So, in that case, you should try disabling the feature and then see if the problem is fixed.
The problem may occur if you have enabled the Public Test Channel feature in Oculus. If the scenario applies, try turning off the Public Test Channel which is meant to test the beta version of the software.
You might be dealing with some underlying system file corruption that is causing the issue at hand. In that case, you can try running an SFC scan to fix the problem.
How do I fix the Oculus Link not working? If Oculus Link is not working on your PC or laptop, try updating your graphics and other drivers. Other than that, you can try reducing the resolution from Oculus settings, disabling in-game overlay from your graphics card settings, or turning off Public Test Channel in Oculus. if that doesn’t work, you can also check by performing an SFC scan on your PC to get rid of the problem.
Now, without much ado, let get straight to the fixes!

Fix Oculus Link Black Screen or Not Working issuesHere are the methods that you can try to fix the black screen problem on Oculus Link or when it is not working while launching a VR game or during the gameplay:
Make sure you have up-to-date device drivers.
Lower the resolution.
Turn off the in-game overlay.
Opt out of Public Test Channel.
Run an SFC scan.
Let us discuss the above solutions in detail now!
1] Make sure you have up-to-date device driversThe problem that you experience black screen with Oculus Link might be triggered due to the faulty or outdated device drivers including graphics and USB drivers. Oculus devices need particular drivers that help in boosting the overall performance of VR games. So, the first thing you should do to fix the issue is to make sure that you have up-to-date graphics, USB drivers, and any other device driver required by Oculus Link.
You have multiple options to update your device drivers. The first method is the manual one where you can visit the official website of your device manufacturer and download the latest drivers and then install them on your system. Likewise, you can also use Windows Settings, Device Manager, etc., to manually update graphics drivers and other drivers on Windows 11/10.
Another way of updating device drivers is by downloading and installing a third-party driver updater software. They let you update your device drivers automatically. Just download and install any such software and they will detect and update out-of-date drivers on your system.
After updating your device drivers, try starting Oculus Link and see if the black screen issue is resolved now. In case it doesn’t, there might be some other underlying reason that you are receiving black screen issues with Oculus Link. Hence, move on to the next potential fix to resolve the problem.
See: Fix Black Screen after shutdown on Windows computer.
2] Lower the resolutionYou might be encountering the problem because of setting up the high resolution on your PC. In that case, you can try lowering your setting i.e., resolution. To do that, you can follow the below steps:
First of all, unplug your Oculus Quest or Rift from your computer.
Now, go to the installation directory of Oculus on your system. By default, you should find it at the below location: C:Program FilesOculus
After that, in the Oculus Debug Tool window, lower the Encode Resolution Width setting. You can also enter a value as per recommendations by Oculus.
Hopefully, this will fix the black screen problem with Oculus. In case it doesn’t, go ahead and try the next potential fix to get rid of the problem.

3] Turn off the in-game overlayIf the above solutions didn’t work for you, you can try disabling the in-game overlay which helps in running games and programs smoother than before. It is a kind of workaround and might work for you as well. So, try doing that using the below steps in the case of GeForce Experience:
Now, go to the General tab and disable the toggle associated with the In-game overlay function.
Next, reboot Oculus Link and VR devices to see if the problem is fixed or not.
In a similar manner, you can disable the in-game overlay feature for other graphics cards as well.
If you still face the black screen problem with Oculus Link, try the next solution.

4] Opt out of Public Test ChannelIn case you have enrolled in Public Test Channel, Oculus Link might not work as intended and you end up encountering the black screen problem. It is basically the Beta version of the Oculus application which is available for testing by the general public. So, if the scenario is applicable, disable the Public Test Channel mode. Here is how to do that:
Firstly, run the Oculus Link software.
Now, if you manage to go to the Settings section from the left panel, move to the Beta tab.
Next, disable the toggle associated with the Public Test Channel option.
After that, relaunch Oculus Link and see if the problem is fixed now.
See: VirtualBox displays the Black screen and not Booting guest OS.
5] Run an SFC scanIf none of the above solutions work for you, there might be some system file corruption that is leading to the black screen problem with Oculus. If the scenario applies, you should be able to fix the problem by running a System File Checker (SFC) scan. It will basically fix all the corrupted, damaged, and missing system files and might help you fix the black screen problem with Oculus.
Here are the steps to run an SFC scan on Windows 11/10:
Firstly, open the Command prompt with elevated privilege.
Now, enter the below command in CMD: sfc /scannow
Next, wait for the scan done, see if the problem is fixed or not.
Hopefully, this method will fix the problem for you.

How To Fix Screen Flashing Or Flickering Randomly On Mac
Why does it happen?
1. Stop Mac’s screen flashing accessibility alert
Just like you can have your iPhone’s LED flash for calls, messages, and notifications, you can set your Mac’s screen to flash for certain macOS alerts. As a result, along with an audio alert, your Mac’s screen also flashes.
But if you think this isn’t useful and find it to be an annoyance, here’s how to stop your Mac’s screen from flashing randomly:
Turn off the switch for ‘Flash the screen when an alert sound occurs.’
From now on, your Mac’s screen won’t flash for system alerts.
2. Restart your Mac
3. Turn off Mac’s Low Power Mode
Is your computer in Low Power Mode, and you’re using resource-intensive apps? If so, turn off Low Power Mode and see if it helps:
Open System Settings and go to Battery settings.
4. Try reducing the workload on your Mac
Sometimes, you may have many applications or browser tabs opened, and the RAM isn’t sufficient to keep all of them active. As a result, it may purge some of the loaded data, and when that happens, the screen may flash. To address this, quit intensive apps like a video editor and close extra browser tabs.
5. Disable True Tone
Try turning off True Tone to see if it brings any improvement:
Turn off the switch for True Tone.
6. Make sure your Mac isn’t abnormally hot
I tried all the solutions I could find, like resetting NVRAM, SMC, etc. However, nothing helped me. After a while, I concluded that it was most likely happening due to thermal problems.
To address this:
Quit extra apps, and hold back from putting too much load on your Mac.
Keep it on a stable, hard surface as opposed to your lap.
If the Mac is abnormally hot, turn it off and let it cool down.
Finally, you can also get a laptop cooling pad/stand or a small table fan and point it toward your Mac.
Note: I also opened my old MacBook and removed years of accumulated dirt from its fans and board, which may have helped dissipate the heat better.

Have you noticed that the screen is flashing only in certain apps? If so, update them from the Mac App Store or look for an update button in that app’s settings.
9. Is the screen flashing due to a new app?
Was your Mac working fine, but its screen started having issues only after you installed a particular app? If so, then that new addition is most likely the culprit! Delete that newly installed app and see if it fixes the problem.
10. Free up space
If your Mac has insufficient storage space (like just a few hundred MBs or a couple of GBs), it will feel sluggish. To tackle this, free space on your Mac by deleting unwanted apps, large videos, old DMG files, etc. While you’re at it, remember to clear your browser and system cache.
11. Disable Chrome, Firefox, or other browser’s hardware acceleration
Open the browser and press the Command + Comma (,) keys to see its settings. This will work for all apps.
Next, follow these steps:
Firefox: Scroll down the General section until you reach the Performance heading. From here, uncheck ‘Use recommended performance settings‘ and then untick the box for ‘Use hardware acceleration when available.’
12. Perform Apple Diagnostics to find the problem
macOS has an Apple Diagnostics tool (previously called Apple Hardware Test) that can run tests and examine problems affecting your Mac. So, before moving forward, start up your Mac in Apple Diagnostics mode and let it finish checking for potential issues.
Once the test is completed, you’ll see reference codes on the screen. If it’s ADP000, that means there are no issues with your Mac. However, if it says VFD001, VFD002, VFD003, VFD004, VFD005, VFD006, or VFD007, there is a problem with your Mac’s display or graphics processor. You’ll have to contact Apple to fix this. But before doing that, try the remaining solutions below.
Besides the codes mentioned above, if you see some other code on the screen, match it with this list of Apple Diagnostics reference codes to find out the exact problem.
13. Stop automatic graphics switching
Do you use a MacBook Pro? If yes, it may have two graphics systems: an integrated graphics processor (saves battery) and a discrete graphics processor (offers high performance).
Uncheck the box for Automatic graphics switching. After this, your Mac will not switch graphics automatically and will always use the high-power discrete graphics processor.
Note: If you don’t see the option for Automatic graphics switching, that means your Mac only has one graphics system. Please move to the remaining solutions.
14. Restart in Safe Mode
If your Mac’s screen flashes frequently, start it in Safe Mode. After doing that, if the problem stops, that means an app, extension, or added service on your Mac was causing the problem. Try to find and remove it. In most cases, it may be a newly installed app.
15. Reset NVRAM and SMC
16. Reinstall macOS (you won’t lose your data)
17. Replace your MacBook’s old battery
Does your Mac laptop have a degraded battery that needs servicing? Take it to an Apple Store and get it replaced. Once you do that, it may eliminate thermal, poor performance, and screen issues.
18. Visit an Apple store
