Suggested January 2024 9 Things You Should Do Before Selling Your Old Ipad

If you’re ready to sell your old iPad, you should ensure that you wipe all personal data from the device before you sell it. This guide will make your transition to a new iPad smooth by erasing all content from your old iPad before you sell it or give it away.

1. Ready To Sell Your Old iPad? Back Up Now

This checklist is the same for all models of the iPad, such as the iPad mini, iPad Air, or iPad Pro. You should first back up all your essential data. You can consider using iCloud for an online backup or Finder or iTunes for a local backup.

Table of Contents

Note that Apple stores iCloud backups on its servers only for 180 days. So, if you’re planning to switch to a new iPad more than six months after backing up the old one, you could lose all your data on iCloud. That’s why a local backup on your computer is better for those who don’t immediately plan to switch to a new iPad.

First, let’s learn how to back up your Apple device to iCloud using a built-in backup feature on iPadOS.

When the process is complete, you’ll see a message below the Back Up Now button telling you that the last backup was completed a short while ago.

If you don’t want to use iCloud, use your Mac or Windows PC to take a full backup of the iPad. If you have a Mac, connect the iPad to your Mac using the USB cable. Next, open Finder on your Mac, and you’ll see your iPad under the Locations section in the sidebar. Select the name of your iPad in the Finder sidebar.

ITunes backup is the best method for anyone using an older Mac or a Windows PC.

You can also protect the backup with a password if you wish to add an extra layer of security, but be sure to use a password manager or an equally reliable tool to save this password. If you forget the iPad backup password, you won’t be able to access the data or use it to restore to a new iPad.

2. Sign Out of iCloud, App Store, and iMessage

The next step requires you to sign out of iCloud and other Apple services. This will ensure that the new owner of your old device can sign in to their Apple ID successfully and use the iPad without trouble. iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 have an anti-theft feature that doesn’t allow people to sign in and use the Apple device if the previous owner hasn’t erased it.

First, you should check if you need to continue using iMessage. This service works on all Apple devices, including your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. If you plan to use any other Apple device, you don’t need to deregister iMessage, but if you don’t use any Apple device, you should disable it.

Apple will ask you to confirm if you want to log out. Tap Sign Out again.

3. Unpair Bluetooth Accessories

Be sure to unpair accessories such as AirPods, gaming controllers, Bluetooth keyboards, etc. Open the Settings app on your iPad and go to Bluetooth to check which accessories are paired. Tap the i button next to each accessory and select Forget This Device.

Remember that you cannot pair your Apple Watch with any device other than the iPhone, so there’s no need to worry about unpairing it from your iPad.

4. Erase Your iPad

5. Remove the SIM card

Once your iPad is restored to factory settings, don’t forget to remove the SIM card in the device. This applies only to the cellular version of the iPad, so if you’re using a Wi-Fi only iPad, there is nothing to worry about.

6. Remove Your iPad From the List of Trusted Devices

If you’ve enabled two-factor authentication on your Apple ID, your iPadOS or iOS device receives two-factor authentication codes. So, when selling or giving away your iPad, you should remove it from the list of trusted devices that receive these authentication codes too.

7. Find All Accessories and the Box

With all the basics covered, it’s time to hunt for the accessories shipped with the iPad and the box it came in. This includes the USB cable, charger, earphones, and manuals. Depending on the model of your iPad, some accessories may not have come with the device.

If you have the box and all accessories, the resale value of your iPad may go up on sites such as eBay or Amazon. In case the device is under warranty, you should look for the original invoice to help out the new owner of the iPad. It may come in handy if they have any warranty claims. The paper invoice is useful, and so is a soft copy that arrives in your email.

8. Trade In Your iPad or Sell It

You should also check the Apple Trade In site to check if you can get a better price from Apple.

9. Transfer Data to Your New iPad

Finally, if you bought yourself a new iPad, you can pick up where you left off by transferring your data to the new device. There are three main ways to do this.

If you have both your iPad and the new device with you, switch on the new iPad and bring it close to your old iPad (before erasing the old one). You’ll see a prompt on the old iPad asking if you want to transfer data to the new one. You can follow the on-screen prompts, and all data will be transferred to the new device.

Alternatively, you can restore from an iCloud or a computer backup during the setup process for the new iPad.

What Should You Do Before Putting An Old Laptop Or Phone On Sale?

Selling a used, no longer needed electronic device is a great way of getting back some of the money spent on it. Thanks to auctioning services you can sell your old devices on eBay or Amazon. What should you remember about before putting the device on sale?

First of all you should make sure that the future owner won’t be able to access you files. Depending on their size and the type of a device you can choose between a couple of methods for moving them onto a new computer, smartphone, or tablet. In case of Office files and similar ones it is most convenient to use the cloud.

Your film, photo and music collection – taking more space, 50, 100 or more GB – will be best transferred using an external hard drive. If you don’t have one you can also burn the data onto DVDs, but such a process may be quite time-consuming.

When it comes to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets there are fewer problems with moving user data between devices, as many application synchronize the saved information automatically and it can be accessed right after logging into a new device.

Keeping your sensitive data is just as important as moving files – a new owner should not be able to access your login data and passwords. The easiest way is by restoring the factory (or default) settings in the system. This will remove all the user-installed files and applications, remove private contacts and notes, and also logging data.

The first step in case of a computer should be a full format or wiping the partitions other than the system partition. Remember that only removing the files may not be sufficient – someone could always try to retrieve these files using a dedicated application.

The last step you have to take in a laptop or a dekstop is formatting the C: partition and installing a fresh Windows copy (from a hidden recovery partition or a DVD). This way all your programs, browser data and other important information will disappear.

Additionally a new user will receive a computer that is working with its maximal efficiency. The customer won’t call us after a couple of days after buying the computer and won’t tell us that we sold them a piece of s***.

An important thing when selling a computer is removing authorization of the device in various Web services. This kind of an authorization can sometime live through the formatting process (especially if files are stored online). Otherwise a buyer will be able to buy DRM music using your credit card.

To get the best price you should of course clean it (at least from the outside). This way it will look better on the photos in the auctioning service. Make sure to say clearly that there are standard signs of usage on the outside.

Of course, fewer customers may want to buy it, but you will not be faced with unpleasant suprises after you have sent the device.

When selling a laptop or a smartphone on Allegro you can add an extra piece of accessory, even the old case you used with it. You won’t probably need it anymore, and the offer will look more appealing to the potential buyers.

9 Things To Do After Installing A New Ram

RAM is a storage device that temporarily stores electronic data so the processor can access and process them faster. Hence, you need RAM with better latency, frequency, and capacity if you seek better performance from your OS.

If you recently upgraded your RAM, your initial thought is probably what to do next. However, you do not need to scratch your head as there’s nothing really left for you to do. Since RAM adopts a plug-and-play feature, it should work just fine once the stick is seated in the right slot.

Well, you might have thought of installing a dedicated driver to run RAM. But the truth is you do not need any additional software to make this memory device work. Nonetheless, you can definitely check the RAM’s latency and frequency to determine if it is functioning the way it should.

Hence, we have presented this simple guide on what to do after installing new RAM.

Most probably, you have installed a new RAM to improve the performance of your PC. Certainly, it’s not just limited to that, as an upgraded RAM offers tons of additional features.

Your computer starts up way quicker than before

Better gaming experience with improved frame rates

Computer stores more data, reducing CPU load

Enhances online activity, like improving streams and running browsers efficiently

Can improve the overall performance of your PC

Once you know the benefits of installing new RAM, you need to check whether you’re achieving everything mentioned above. Basically, we’ll guide you in comparing your old RAM with the recently installed one to ensure that your upgrade is worth it.

So, without further delay, let’s jump right into the seven things you can do after installing new RAM on your laptop or desktop computer.

Firstly, if you haven’t installed a new RAM stick yet, there are certain things you need to consider. But if you’ve already done it, you can skip this section and move on with the second step.

If RAM isn’t properly seated, your PC won’t boot at all. This is because it is one of the essential hardware components responsible for communicating with the CPU.

Thus, if you haven’t installed the RAM correctly, your system will reach the power-on self-test and probably beep continuously. Moreover, you might even get an error message, or your PC might show a black screen.

So, we suggest checking if your RAM has been properly aligned with the motherboard. Here, you will learn to do so on both laptop and desktop.

On Desktop Computer

On a desktop, you need to open the cover plate of your PC casing to access RAM. Since you’ve already installed a new RAM, you should know about this. Now, here’s how you can check if RAM is properly seated and aligned on its dedicated slot in the motherboard:

On Laptop

Unlike desktop computers, a RAM chip is located below the laptop surface. So, you need to open it up and check if it is installed the right way:

When installing multiple RAMs, your motherboard may not be compatible with all of them. So, you need to consult the user manual to learn what RAM your motherboard supports.

For example, if the motherboard has a DDR4 RAM slot and you’re trying to use DDR3, your CPU won’t support it. This way, your upgraded RAM chip may not work, and only the compatible one gets detected.

Furthermore, if you bought cheap RAMs, there’s a possible chance you may have been scammed. So, it is vital to check whether the RAM has the same capacity as stated on the stick.

Luckily, Windows OS allows us to check several RAM settings without getting into the BIOS. Here’s how you can easily check whether the new memory is detected on Windows 11:

Indeed, it’s important to know whether your new RAM has any memory faults. Basically, using this utility helps you detect and diagnose these problems.

Hence, before moving on to other steps, we highly recommend running the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool that checks whether there’s a RAM error on your system. Here’s how you can do it:

As soon as you install the right RAM and power on the CPU, it gets up and running. So, you do not really require any third-party applications.

Nonetheless, a few useful applications let you check various RAM settings that aren’t accessible within your Windows OS. For example, you can check the DRAM frequency, CAS Latency, and even your processor’s vital information.

Some popular applications include CPU-Z, Memtest86, Piriform Speccy, and many more. You can download them via each manufacturer’s official site.

The major reason you may have installed a new RAM is probably to increase the RAM speed. So, once the RAM stick is seated, it’s also important to cross-check whether you’re getting the speed as desired.

Interestingly, you can easily examine the RAM speed within Windows, and here’s how you can do that:

Well, you can go through our other article to learn how to change RAM speed in BIOS.

RAM Latency, often called CAS Latency (CL), is measured in terms of clock cycles. While RAM speed states how fast the RAM can fetch or send data to the CPU, the Cache Latency is about the time the RAM takes to respond to the CPU’s request.

Unlike RAM speed, you require a RAM monitoring application. For demonstration purposes, we’ve used CPU-Z to examine the CAS Latency:

Enabling XMP is an easy and effective way to overclock your memory, enabling higher clock speeds that your RAM can actually support. However, this is only compatible with some motherboards.

By default, these profile is disabled so that your RAM performs as per the standard DDR specification. So, you need to enable XMP from the BIOS. Here, we have demonstrated this on an ASRock motherboard:

Note: If you do not find XMP, you might find its alternatives like EOCP in Gigabyte and DOCP in AMD motherboards.

Dual channel mode is available only on specific CPUs and laptops. So, before moving ahead, ensure your system is compatible with this.

Basically, when you get new RAM sticks, they are either numbered as A1, B1, A2, and B2 or have two different colors, usually blue and black. These multiple RAM chips have separate channels, so data transfer becomes much quicker.

Well, enabling the dual channel mode is based on how you have installed the multiple RAM chips. If the setup was done correctly, you do not need to disassemble the parts. Luckily, you can check whether the dual channel mode is working or not via CPU-Z:

But if it shows Single and your system supports the dual-channel mode, you’ll have to make certain changes and reinstall the RAM sticks:

Running a benchmark test gives you an idea of how your RAM is performing and whether the upgrade has been successful. Moreover, you can also compare how your PC performs when the XMP profile is enabled and when disabled.

Well, you can use any reliable third-party application that lets you run a benchmark test. Some popular programs are UserBenchMark, Maxxmem2, AIDA64, and many more. For demonstration purposes, we’ve used UseBenchMark in the steps below:

10 Things You Need To Do When Launching Your Business Website

In today’s tech-driven world, it’s crucial for all businesses to have a functional website. Those who don’t launch a site will have no chance of staying in competition as a business. But launching a site can be stressful, frustrating, and overwhelming, to say the least.

But whether you are launching a personal blog or a professional business website, there are several essential things you need to do. Not only is it important to follow certain compliance regulations and laws, but it’s also crucial that website users can easily access your website from their smartphones.

So, we’ve listed the ten most important things you must do when launching a business website. Beyond crafting a professional website, you’ll also need to consider all of the following vital factors for a successful website launch.

Research Accessibility Laws

In certain regions, accessibility laws must be followed by all website owners, whether personal or for business reasons. You must consider AODA compliance when setting up your website.

Image content must include descriptions that explain images to assist anyone using the site that might be visually impaired. Moreover, consider header issues, color contrast issues, and other issues that visually impaired individuals might experience when visiting the site.

Include Essential Website Policies

Your business website will also need certain essential policies, such as terms of service policy, a privacy policy, a disclaimer policy, a returns and refund policy, and a delivery and shipping policy.

These policies will protect your business website from a variety of legal implications. Instead of leaving these policies till the last minute, be sure to include them when your website launches.

Develop A Pre-Launch Page

On your pre-launch page, include a striking sign-up box that will allow visitors to be notified of the site’s launch date.

Create 3-5 Pieces Of Engaging Content

Most promotional strategies rely heavily on content; without content, you’ll find digital marketing tactics challenging.

Whether your business retails unique products or helpful services, include at least three to five pieces of original, engaging content. Be sure this content complements your business’s specific niche.

Consider how-to posts, expert opinion articles, tutorials, or even industry FAQs and definitions.

Include A Sign-Up Option For Newsletters

Newsletters are an excellent digital marketing strategy. With this, you will need to include a pop-up box that allows site visitors to sign-up for upcoming newsletters. It’s also essential to include an unsubscribe option for customers and site visitors.

Moreover, you will need to create content for newsletters that’s informative, engaging, and compelling.

Activate Online Alerts For Your Blog

When promoting your website, you will need to stay in the loop and up to date with regard to how often your site is being mentioned online. This data can help you gain clarity into the success of your outreach efforts while also helping you focus on strategies that yield the best results.

It’s relatively straightforward to activate online alerts for your blog name. All you must do is simply sign up for Google Alerts.

Learn SEO Basics

Some essential components to include for this are keywords, original content, and backlinks.

Use keywords in strategic areas of site pages like your navigation bar, title tags, header tags, post titles, and alt image tags. Remember to be consistent and original when creating content and building links to your site. In addition, make sure your website is mobile-friendly.

With this, it’s also wise to rely on an SEO expert if you’re experiencing difficulty with the basics of Search Engine Optimization, even though it’s not mandatory.

Implement Google Analytics

There’s no doubt you’ll be investing a lot of time and effort into building your website and promoting it, so it’s crucial to know what kind of traffic your site is seeing.

With Google Analytics, it’s easy to gain insight into traffic numbers and other beneficial data points. Moreover, Google Analytics is free and relatively straightforward to use.

Add Your Website To Google Search Console

Once your site is verified with these tools, you can get access to a list of links to your website, manual penalties against your website, and others.

Keep Adding Fresh Content

Lastly, it’s also essential to maintain your website to keep traffic numbers flourishing. The best way to do this beyond digital marketing tactics is to keep adding fresh and engaging content to your website.

Even though you’ve already added a few pieces of content, it’s crucial to build on these efforts with the help of a content writing team or agency. As you add more content, you’ll keep your audience engaged.

You can also consider using AI tools for content writers to create high-quality content on your own.

Launching a business website might require a lot of work and attention to varying details. But even so, these efforts will pay off in the long run. A business website will form and strengthen your online reputation, which is essential for all businesses in the modern era.

Things To Know Before Buying An External Gpu For Your Pc

External GPUs (eGPUs) are growing in popularity as of late as several laptop users look to gain more performance for gaming. With these types of GPUs, users can gain desktop performance on their laptops, so there is little need to purchase or create a desktop gaming rig.

Things to know before buying an external GPU for your PC

The question is, are these GPUs truly capable of walking in the same lane as desktop GPUs, and should potential users waste their time acquiring these devices? Well, there are a few things to take in before we can come to a conclusion.

At the end of the day, though, eGPUs are very useful, so one should not write them off because we expect the technology to improve significantly in the years to come.

How do external GPUs work?

For those who are wondering, external GPUs do not simply connect to your laptop. A dock is required for everything to work and run smoothly. For example, the GPU is connected to the dock via a PCIe port, and then the dock connects to the computer via a USB-C or Thunderbolt cable.

The dock is easy to use so we do not expect anyone to have problems where complexities are concerned. Then again, strange things do happen from time to time.

After the eGPU is attached and the dock is plugged in, the computer will automatically push graphic requests to the external GPU instead of the default option. This should give users much better graphical performance since laptops in general are not capable of delivering desktop-grade GPU performance, though many have tried.

What does an eGPU do?

An external graphics processing unit (eGPU) is the same as a typical graphics card in every computer. The main difference is that it is external, which means it is housed outside the computer rather than inside.

External GPU performance is not perfect

Here’s the thing, you will indeed see an increase in graphical performance when an eGPU is in play. However, one should not expect these things to stack up on equal footing against desktop GPUs at all. Estimates have shown that performance losses do happen, and such losses sit around 10 to 15 percent, which is quite a lot if you think about it.

This is likely not a major problem for some users because they would still be experiencing better performance than what they’re used to from a gaming laptop. But those expecting more will be disappointed because laptops were not built to handle desktop-grade power. And in the rare instances where a laptop can stack up, chances are it has a built-in GPU, and the entire device won’t be as mobile as you’d like.

Furthermore, we must point out that the base laptop being used has a say in the overall performance folks must expect from their eGPU. You see, if the laptop is old, you won’t get a far improved gaming experience, but if the laptop is modern, then things should turn out much better.

External GPU docks aren’t affordable

In some cases, an eGPU doesn’t come packaged with a dock, so it is then up to the consumer to go out and get one. The problem is that docks are expensive, so if you’re running low on cash, you’ll be in for a hard time.

We have to look at the cost of the laptop, then the cost of the GPU itself, and then when you factor in the dock you are looking at, possibly, thousands of dollars right there.

But that’s not all because some docks are only compatible with certain brands of laptops, therefore, should the time ever come, you’ll have to purchase a new dock for use with another brand of laptop. That is not ideal by any means, but it’s the nature of the eGPU market at the moment.

Research before purchasing a eGPU

Before you purchase an eGPU, do some research first because you may end up with the wrong one in your catalog. We say this because some external GPUs are designed for cards of a specific size, while others lack Thunderbolt and USB-C ports due to the use of propriety connectors.

There are even eGPUs that come with additional SATA ports for connecting SSD and HDD for those who want more space.

If you’re not sure about which eGPU to purchase, then head over to Reddit’s /r/eGPU page. This subreddit is very active with users who are willing to help you make a final decision.

Is it possible to get better performance from an eGPU?

It’s clear from multiple testing on the web and by people who own several eGPUs, that there is a clear performance upgrade over a typical gaming laptop. But as stated above, the improvements depend on the already available power of the laptop itself.

Knowing the exact boost in performance, an external GPU brings to the table is quite difficult. Still, that doesn’t matter right now because we know the improvements are real. However, folks should not expect similar performance to a desktop or a laptop with a full-fledged integrated GPU.

5 Great Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do On Steam

But Valve, the company behind Steam (and Half-life, Dota, Counter-Strike, and other great things), tends to stay strangely quiet about some of its finest features. So I’m here to brag on its behalf. Here are five of my favourite Steam features.

Related: The Ultimate Guide to Steam

1. Move Games Between Hard Drives

One of the most recently-added perks of Steam is the option to move games between hard drives (which kind of negates a piece I wrote just before that about ways to move games between drives).

2. Get a Refund 3. Steam Family Sharing

Probably the single best feature of Steam, Family Sharing, lets you share your entire games library with fellow Steam users. The catch is that you can’t play games in another person’s library while they’re playing their own games, but beyond that it’s pretty unrestricted.

That’s it. Enjoy using your friend’s games library!

4. In-Home Streaming

If you do most of your gaming on a heavyweight gaming PC in the airing cupboard but want to play on the TV downstairs, you can stream Steam to a lesser device, like a laptop that you can then connect to the TV.

5. Manage Games in Bulk

A neat little trick, but very much a hidden one. Gone are the days of playing single games to death – you probably have at least 100 games in your library and want a way to install, uninstall and generally manage them en masse. Luckily, you can do this much as you would in Windows by holding the “Ctrl” key while selecting games.
