Google Maps has cornered the online maps market for quite some time now. Despite the alternatives to Google Maps, it’s still the most popular mapping service, especially with Android users. However, even if you’ve been using it for years, you might not know about all the hidden features Google Maps has to offer.

1. Dude, Where’s My Car?

It’s happened to everyone. You leave a concert or Costco or anywhere with a big parking lot, and you can’t remember where you parked. Never feel that frustration again by using Google Maps’ hidden “save parking” feature.

After you’ve parked, tap on the blue location dot in the Google Maps app on your phone. Then select Save parking.

From there, you have the option to select the More info button, and then you can add more information like a note about where you parked or how much time you have left before you need to move your car. You can also add any photos you think might be helpful, like a photo of the parking lot section sign or parking garage level.

When it’s time to leave, simply open Google Maps, and you’ll see a pin labeled “You parked here.”

2. Travel Back in Time

Searching for specific areas of parks, camping sites, or a particular location with a fabulous view can be difficult – and sharing those with others even more so.

Google Maps makes this easier to do by allowing you to drop pins onto their maps in any location you want. It allows you to save a memorable spot, then ,quickly share it with family and friends so that you can all meet up there later. You can even drop pins then create navigation routes using those pins. The option is available in Google Maps for Android and iPhone, as well as your PC.

The process of dropping a pin in Google Maps is the same no matter what mobile OS your device is running.

Open the Google Maps app on your Android or iPhone.

Either search for the address or drag your finger around the map until you find the location you want to mark.

Press and hold to drop the pin. (If you are using an iPhone, don’t press with so much force that you engage 3D Touch.) A red pin will appear at the spot.

To get directions to the pin’s location, either tap the pin or “Directions” at the bottom of the screen.
