Suggested January 2024 5 Great Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do On Steam
But Valve, the company behind Steam (and Half-life, Dota, Counter-Strike, and other great things), tends to stay strangely quiet about some of its finest features. So I’m here to brag on its behalf. Here are five of my favourite Steam features.
Related: The Ultimate Guide to Steam1. Move Games Between Hard Drives
One of the most recently-added perks of Steam is the option to move games between hard drives (which kind of negates a piece I wrote just before that about ways to move games between drives).2. Get a Refund 3. Steam Family Sharing
Probably the single best feature of Steam, Family Sharing, lets you share your entire games library with fellow Steam users. The catch is that you can’t play games in another person’s library while they’re playing their own games, but beyond that it’s pretty unrestricted.
That’s it. Enjoy using your friend’s games library!4. In-Home Streaming
If you do most of your gaming on a heavyweight gaming PC in the airing cupboard but want to play on the TV downstairs, you can stream Steam to a lesser device, like a laptop that you can then connect to the TV.5. Manage Games in Bulk
A neat little trick, but very much a hidden one. Gone are the days of playing single games to death – you probably have at least 100 games in your library and want a way to install, uninstall and generally manage them en masse. Luckily, you can do this much as you would in Windows by holding the “Ctrl” key while selecting games. Conclusion

Loop a video
Zoom in on a video
When you’re playing a clip and want to zoom in, all you have to do is press the Command + Plus (+) keys. And to do the opposite, hit Command + Minus (-) keys.
Play multiple videos at the same time
You can open multiple videos in separate QuickTime windows and play or pause them all together in one stroke. It’s very cool. Give it a try:
Hold the Command key and select several videos in your Mac’s folder.
Now, hold the Command key and hit the return/enter key to play or pause all those videos at once.
Play videos from the internet
Since QuickTime is a video player, you can obviously open most downloaded video and audio files in it.
See metadata of media files
After you open a video in QuickTime Player, simply press Command + I to see its details like original resolution, size, data rate, current size/dimensions, video & audio format, FPS (frames per second), aspect ratio, audio channel, and more.
Record your Mac’s screen
Record your iPhone’s screen or FaceTime, WhatsApp, and other calls
iOS has a built-in screen recorder, but at times, like when you want to record a FaceTime call or WhatsApp video call, you can connect your iPhone to your Mac and record the call with audio. Here’s how:
Take screenshots or screen recordings of your Apple TV
Ever wanted to grab what you see on your Apple TV screen? It’s easy. Just make sure your Apple TV and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network, and use QuickTime to take a screenshot or make a movie recording.
Use it as an audio recorder
Mac has a built-in Voice Memos app, but that’s not your only option. You can record high-quality audio in QuickTime Player:
Hit the tiny arrow next to the red record button and choose Maximum quality.
Finally, hit the white-red record button.
Your Mac will now record 44100 Hz, uncompressed Linear PCM 24-bit AIFF-C audio.
Edit a video
Merge two or more videos into one
Open the first video in QuickTime Player.
To change the order of a clip, select it on the timeline and drag it before the other video.
Split a video
Open the video in QuickTime Player on Mac.
Now, drag the red line to the position from where you want to split the video clip.
Next, choose the other unwanted clip and hit the delete key to get rid of it.
Reduce the video quality or change video codecs
Suppose you have a 4K video that you want to downgrade to 1080p so that it can be played on low-end phones and tablets. Instead of downloading an extra app, you can let QuickTime handle this. Here’s how:
Open the video in QuickTime Player on Mac.
Extract the audio from a video file
Create a video or GIF using an image sequence
If you took many photos in a sequence, like burst photos, you can turn them all into a video using these steps:
Open QuickTime Player on your Mac.
Once you have the short video of a few seconds, you can use sites like chúng tôi to convert it into a GIF.
Save a video frame as an image
Why take a screenshot when you can save the video frame as a photo? Let me show you how:
Open a video in QuickTime Player on Mac.
Pause the playback and scroll to the frame you want to save as a picture. Use the arrow keys for precision.
Finally, open any app like Notes, Keynote, Pages, Word, etc., where you can paste the image and press Command + V.
Bonus: Best QuickTime alternatives for watching videos
Finally, even though QuickTime Player is a feature-packed and free app, you may want to know about a few excellent alternatives, like when you have to play files in MKV format. Here are two that I use on my Mac in addition to Apple’s built-in video player:
Fun fact: QuickTime player was also available for Windows PC but was discontinued in 2023. However, you can still download QuickTime 7.7.9 for Windows from Apple’s official website.
These Hootsuite hacks will help you save time, stay organized, and manage social media better—that is, they’ll change your life forever.

There are all sorts of hidden gems to save time and increase your brand’s social ROI. In fact, there are so many Hootsuite hacks, it’s hard to know where to start.
For this post, we quizzed the Hootsuite customer success and social media teams about the little-known, under-appreciated features they want to sing about from the rafters.
Buckle up for an insider look at how Hootsuite power users wield the dashboard—and get the most out of social media for their businesses.
Bonus: Get a free guide that shows you 8 Ways to Use Hootsuite to Help Your Work-Life Balance. Find out how to spend more time offline by automating many of your daily social media work tasks.
In this video, we’ll walk you through what an internal dashboard here at Hootsuite looks like, and some of our very favourite Hootsuite hacks for 2023:
Scheduling and publishing hacks1. Duplicate posts in Planner
The duplicate button allows you to construct a series of similar or related posts without building each one from scratch. It’s the easiest way to repurpose content across your various social channels.
Rather than cross-posting the same content on every platform, you can edit handles, hashtags, language and links to make each post appropriate for its intended home. It’s also great for targeting different time zones, languages, regions or audiences.
If you’re running a big campaign, starting with duplicated posts can help keep your content consistent and aligned.
Find the duplicate button by selecting your post in the Planner tab.2. Collaborate on drafts before posting them
Sharing drafts with your team in Hootsuite’s Planner tab ensures everyone knows what’s coming up. Even better, editable drafts let teams pitch in in real-time to tweak and improve your social content without going through a more formal approval workflow. (Which is, of course, also a good idea.)
Find out more about using collaborative drafts in Hootsuite.3. Bulk schedule up to 350 posts at once
According to our customer success team, social media managers who maintain high-volume accounts use bulk scheduling tools to get the worst of the uploading and scheduling grunt work out of the way.
With Hootsuite’s bulk scheduler, you can upload up to 350 posts at once, then just go through them to double-check the copy and links, and add any visuals or emoji.
Here’s our full guide on how to bulk schedule social media posts using Hootsuite.

The average social media user has 7.4 accounts. For social media managers, of course, that number can be much, much higher.
When you’re managing multiple accounts, you need all the help you can get to keep them organized. A simple star marks a social account as a favorite and pins it to the top of your list of accounts. You can also filter by favorites when reviewing your content calendar.
You can select favorite teams, too.5. Condense your entire week’s social calendar into one screen
This makes it much easier to review what’s going out and create a screengrab to share with anyone else who wants to know.6. Suspend posts without deleting them
This will keep all prescheduled posts from being published until you decide it is safe to resume. You can still publish and schedule new content during a publishing suspension with an extra layer of confirmation that you really want to do so.

Hootsuite’s free URL shortener, chúng tôi makes any link look sweet, short, and a lot more trustworthy. Owly links are secure, and they track the conversion metrics you need through built-in UTM parameters.
That said, if you want to level up your branding, Hootsuite also supports vanity URLs based on your own brand name.

Hootsuite’s native content library is a great tool for organizing all of your digital assets for social, and we highly recommend it.
However, if your organization is already devoted to a specific cloud storage plaform, then using Hootsuite’s integrated Cloudview, Dropbox, and Adobe Creative Cloud apps may well be a shortcut that you can benefit from.14. Optimize your ad budget by automatically boosting your best posts
Hootsuite’s dashboard gives you a fast, simple way to access new audiences on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Review your engagement stats to find your top-performing posts, and allocate a budget to show them to a lookalike audience of platform users (a.k.a. people who the AI thinks might like it).
You can also automate this process, so that all of your most popular posts get shown to fresh eyes. For instance, you could create an auto-boost trigger that gives any video post with, say, 100 likes an ad budget of $10/day.

With Hootsuite Social Advertising, your paid and organic campaigns are fully integrated. You can plan and manage everything from one dashboard, and compare paid and organic performance in unified Analytics reports.17. Integrate your Shopify store with your social feeds
If your e-commerce runs on Shopify, this social media hack (ok, app) is a no-brainer.
Keeping a stream of your products available for your social feeds means you’ve always got the latest product shots, pricing, and approved copy at hand as you interact with your customers.
For instance, if someone Tweets asking about product availability, you can respond with a link to the exact product they’re looking for—without leaving the Hootsuite dashboard.
Engagement and customer service hacks18. Automatically post at the perfect time for engagement, traffic, or awareness
When’s the best time to post on social media? We get this question a lot. And the answer is, it depends on a lot of factors.
Our best time to post might not be yours. And your own best time to post might change, depending on how often you’re posting and how your audience changes over time.
Enter Hootsuite’s Best time to publish feature. It calculates your personalized best time to post on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts based on your content goals.
You can view the best time to publish in Hootsuite Analytics, or directly in Publisher.

Keeping track of all your private and public conversations from multiple platforms is infinitely simpler if you can access them all in one place.20. Automatically assign messages to the best team or person
For larger teams and brands with a high volume of social queries, different messages often need attention from specific team members.
Automating assignments improves response rates and makes it more likely that queries will be resolved on the first try—resulting in happier customers.
With the right keywords in place, you can set up assignments that route sales inquiries to your business development team, billing questions to customer service, and troubleshooting queries to tech support.21. Improve your response times with shortcuts
45% of brands take more than five days to respond to messages received through their Facebook Pages. While we get how this can happen, yikes. This is not a great way to build customer trust.
Here are three of our favorite Hootsuite hacks to speed up response time:

Tagging private DMs, public conversations and replies by type or content allows your analytics reports to provide a clearer picture of conversation volume and where your efforts might be best directed in the future.
When you know what types of messages take up the bulk of your team’s energy, you can adjust resources appropriately.
You can also use this information to guide your creation of FAQ documents in the content library, reply templates, or messenger bots to help out.
Check out how to manually or automatically tag your inbound messages.
Reporting hacks24. Automatically tag your (outbound) posts for better analytics
Unlike the previous tip, this one applies to your published social posts. In this case, an automatic tagging system allows you to create customized social analytics.
For instance, you can zero in on specific campaigns or post types, and compare them using the metrics that matter to you.
If you’re an enterprise user with a complex content calendar, look into implementing Hootsuite Impact’s auto-tagging feature, and get more accurate and consistent reporting.25. Understand your performance at a glance with Social Score
Think of it as the credit score for your social performance: Your daily updated Social Score is a rating from 1 to 100 that shows how you compare to top performers, based on factors like post consistency and engagement.
While detailed analytics are a necessary part of improving social performance, sometimes a quick snapshot is all you need. And it provides an early-warning system if things are starting to go sideways.
Along with your Social Score, rated from 1 to 100, you’ll also see personalized recommendations to improve performance.

Here’s how to take a closer look at your social team’s performance.
Listening and monitoring hack27. Set up a Twitter Advanced search stream to keep an ear to the ground
Hootsuite’s search streams are a simple, low-key way to do some social listening without digging into the big data offered by Hootsuite Insights.
Set up a Twitter search stream in your dashboard so that you’re always informed on keywords and hashtags relevant to your brand.
Better yet, set up a Twitter Advanced Search stream that allows you to use all the variables of Twitter Advanced Search (which requires multiple steps to access on Twitter itself).
You can also set up a geo-search stream to confine your searches to your local area.

Google has changed a lot in the last few years. It’s not just about the 10 links that come up on the search results page anymore. Now there are Google Ads, Maps results, Google My Business listings, knowledge panels, and rich snippets all taking up real estate on a search result page.
With so many different ways to get your business on Google, people have started to wonder, “Is SEO dying?” But the truth is that SEO is alive and well and is a key component of a healthy marketing strategy. Why? Let’s explore.1. Search Overall Is on the Rise
As long as people are using search engines to find businesses, information, and entertainment, SEO will continue to be important. And, more searches are happening now than ever. With the ease of searching on desktop, mobile, and through voice search (which we’ll talk about more later), we can assume that searches will continue to rise. So, it’s important to make sure that your business has a presence on search engines, and SEO is one of the most important ways to do that.2. SEO Is Bigger Than Organic Search
Like I mentioned above, Google has added a lot of features that seem to be crowding out organic search results. In reality, though, the businesses that Google decides to feature in things like Maps results or rich snippets are those that have taken SEO into account.
Google is a business, too. Their customers want answers to their queries, and the way for Google to provide the best search results is to ensure they’re featuring the companies that are most relevant to the search terms. And how do they do that? By analyzing what a business has done to up their SEO game.
If you’ve put in the legwork to create an SEO-friendly site with strong internal linking, solid content, and a high trust, Google feels confident that your site is likely to provide the answers their customers are looking for, so they’ll be more likely to feature your business in one of their many formats.3. Appearing in Map Search Results Is Key
Because of the increase in mobile search, performance in Maps results is becoming increasingly important. Searches with the phrase “near me” have grown astronomically over the past few years. In 2023, Google found that searches about making a purchase that included “near me” increased over 500%.
If proximity is important to consumers, you can bet they’re using Maps to see which business is the closest. And because so many searches are happening on mobile devices, people who aren’t familiar with your neighborhood might be finding your business as they drive through by searching with the “near me” phrase from their phone or tablet. I know I personally conduct most searches for businesses directly in my Google Maps app ““ I don’t even go to my internet app because I want to get all the information about the business right there so I can call, get directions, and read reviews in one easy place.
How your business appears in map results is influenced by your SEO approach and listings management. Be sure you’re giving yourself the best shot at appearing in these types of searches.4. Alexa & Siri Rely on SEO
Voice search has also been on the rise in recent years. Thanks to Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Siri across Apple products, we’re seeing people turn to voice assistants more frequently.
When you ask Siri, “What’s the best coffee shop nearby?” she’s providing you with one answer. Of course, if you’re a coffee shop owner in the neighborhood, you want to be sure that your business is the one Siri responds with!
The best way to ensure that is to adhere to SEO best practices. Ask customers to leave positive reviews. Manage your Google My Business profile, and make sure all of the contact and location information listed is correct.
Even though the Google landscape is changing, SEO remains as important as ever. Thinking about SEO when designing your site and managing your online assets will give your business the best shot at being found by consumers. We know a lot goes into SEO, which is where we come in! Looking to dive further into the NFT space? You can start by straying off the virtual beaten path and exploring projects hosted on blockchains besides the monolithic Ethereum network. One such blockchain that’s worth looking into is Tezos.
Built by Kathleen and Arthur Breitman in 2023, this blockchain sets itself apart from its contemporaries in a few notable ways. Firstly, it’s capable of evolving and self-amending, which enables programs hosted on it to scale themselves up relatively quickly and reliably.
Perhaps more importantly, though, Tezos is also renowned in NFT circles due to how it runs on a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. This method of verifying transactions on a blockchain is widely regarded as being much less resource-intensive than the Proof-of-Work model Ethereum runs on. Thanks to this, Tezos has been touted as the environmentally-friendly blockchain — using up to two million times less energy than Ethereum.
One of the first marketplaces on the Tezos blockchain was Hic et Nunc (HEN). At the time, it was heralded as an economic alternative to Ethereum-centric marketplaces. But the platform suddenly shut down on November 14, 2023 with no explanation.
Fortunately, the NFTs that were listed there are now on Tezos’ array of other marketplaces. These include Objkt, the largest and most popular marketplace on the Tezos chain; Teia, a marketplace that was created in the image of Hic et Nunc shortly after it was shut down; Kalamint, one of the first Tezos NFT marketplaces to ever exist; and OneOf, which specializes in music and sports memorabilia.
Ready to start perusing the marketplaces for your next NFT? We’ve made it easy and compiled a list of some of the most notable projects hosted on Tezos to get you started.Tezzards
First up is Tezzards, a generative PFP collection consisting of 4,200 Tezos-native lizards, or ‘Tezzards.’ Each Tezzard in the collection is a combination of 97 traits hand-drawn by illustrator and digital artist George Goodwin. As such, each Tezzard carries Goodwin’s signature cartoon style. On top of the 4,200 Tezzards created in the initial mint, six super rare one-of-one Tezzards hand-drawn by Goodwin himself are hidden in the collection.
Since launching in 2023, these ‘snazzy’ lizards have received glowing praise throughout the NFT community. According to the project’s website, noted NFT collectors like Chris Wallace, chúng tôi and Jesse Altman are among the biggest champions for this project.randomly common skeles
Source: randomly common skeles, John Karel
Noted 3D artist in the NFT sphere John Karel came up with the perfect project to commemorate Halloween 2023: an animated collection of spooky, scary skeletons. Dubbed randomly common skeles, the open-edition mint went on for 24 hours, starting at 8pm UTC on October 31.
Karel crafted 800 traits for the collection, all evenly distributed throughout the 24-hour mint and available for purchase at the very reasonable price of 5 TEZ. At the time, that was roughly equivalent to $31, ensuring anyone who wanted to get in on the skeleton action could do so with no issue.FxHash
FxHash is a platform for generative art, enabling anyone with a Tezos crypto wallet to mint iterations of generative tokens hosted on the platform. These iterations are all touted as being FA2 compliant, enabling users participating in generative art projects via mint to freely exchange the NFTs they generate.
Aside from that, FxHash also functions as an open marketplace for generative art, with the site itself stating that its marketplace features “no curation,” and is “open to everyone.” For anyone who’s stumbled across Art Blocks in the past, this platform may just be right up your alley.NEONZ
Source: NEONZ, Sutu
With Web3 (and subsequently, NFTs) representing the future of the internet, there has understandably been a bevy of projects done in the NFT space themed around the very idea of the future. One such project is NEONZ, a 10,000-piece collection of animated retro-futurist avatars, all designed by Australian digital artist Sutu. Included in the collection are pieces themed after sci-fi icon Robocop, and even both members of the dance music luminary Daft Punk.
Each of these avatars also functions as a ticket into the Sutuverse — a virtual Web3 playground designed by the artist. Herein, users are promised all kinds of augmented reality, virtual reality, and web-based experiences curated and designed with Sutu’s discerning eye pointed towards the future.Dogamí
Remember Nintendogs? If you do and are now spiraling into an existential crisis wondering what happened to those virtual puppies you once doted on as a youth, then Dogamí is the perfect project for you. This upcoming project is set to double as both an NFT collection and a metaverse game with AR functionality. Once a user ‘adopts’ a Dogamí — a 3D NFT of a dog — they’re free to raise their new virtual pet and even interact with it on their phone via Dogamí’s AR-enabled mobile app.
There are also a host of planned incentives for users to take good care of their virtual dogs. With enough training, users can build up traits for their pets, allowing them to more effectively compete in in-app challenges for earning rewards in $DOGA, the game’s proprietary coin.
If you’re ready to sell your old iPad, you should ensure that you wipe all personal data from the device before you sell it. This guide will make your transition to a new iPad smooth by erasing all content from your old iPad before you sell it or give it away.1. Ready To Sell Your Old iPad? Back Up Now
This checklist is the same for all models of the iPad, such as the iPad mini, iPad Air, or iPad Pro. You should first back up all your essential data. You can consider using iCloud for an online backup or Finder or iTunes for a local backup.
Table of Contents
Note that Apple stores iCloud backups on its servers only for 180 days. So, if you’re planning to switch to a new iPad more than six months after backing up the old one, you could lose all your data on iCloud. That’s why a local backup on your computer is better for those who don’t immediately plan to switch to a new iPad.
First, let’s learn how to back up your Apple device to iCloud using a built-in backup feature on iPadOS.
When the process is complete, you’ll see a message below the Back Up Now button telling you that the last backup was completed a short while ago.
If you don’t want to use iCloud, use your Mac or Windows PC to take a full backup of the iPad. If you have a Mac, connect the iPad to your Mac using the USB cable. Next, open Finder on your Mac, and you’ll see your iPad under the Locations section in the sidebar. Select the name of your iPad in the Finder sidebar.
ITunes backup is the best method for anyone using an older Mac or a Windows PC.
You can also protect the backup with a password if you wish to add an extra layer of security, but be sure to use a password manager or an equally reliable tool to save this password. If you forget the iPad backup password, you won’t be able to access the data or use it to restore to a new iPad.2. Sign Out of iCloud, App Store, and iMessage
The next step requires you to sign out of iCloud and other Apple services. This will ensure that the new owner of your old device can sign in to their Apple ID successfully and use the iPad without trouble. iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 have an anti-theft feature that doesn’t allow people to sign in and use the Apple device if the previous owner hasn’t erased it.
First, you should check if you need to continue using iMessage. This service works on all Apple devices, including your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. If you plan to use any other Apple device, you don’t need to deregister iMessage, but if you don’t use any Apple device, you should disable it.
Apple will ask you to confirm if you want to log out. Tap Sign Out again.3. Unpair Bluetooth Accessories
Be sure to unpair accessories such as AirPods, gaming controllers, Bluetooth keyboards, etc. Open the Settings app on your iPad and go to Bluetooth to check which accessories are paired. Tap the i button next to each accessory and select Forget This Device.
Remember that you cannot pair your Apple Watch with any device other than the iPhone, so there’s no need to worry about unpairing it from your iPad.4. Erase Your iPad 5. Remove the SIM card
Once your iPad is restored to factory settings, don’t forget to remove the SIM card in the device. This applies only to the cellular version of the iPad, so if you’re using a Wi-Fi only iPad, there is nothing to worry about.6. Remove Your iPad From the List of Trusted Devices
If you’ve enabled two-factor authentication on your Apple ID, your iPadOS or iOS device receives two-factor authentication codes. So, when selling or giving away your iPad, you should remove it from the list of trusted devices that receive these authentication codes too.7. Find All Accessories and the Box
With all the basics covered, it’s time to hunt for the accessories shipped with the iPad and the box it came in. This includes the USB cable, charger, earphones, and manuals. Depending on the model of your iPad, some accessories may not have come with the device.
If you have the box and all accessories, the resale value of your iPad may go up on sites such as eBay or Amazon. In case the device is under warranty, you should look for the original invoice to help out the new owner of the iPad. It may come in handy if they have any warranty claims. The paper invoice is useful, and so is a soft copy that arrives in your email.8. Trade In Your iPad or Sell It
You should also check the Apple Trade In site to check if you can get a better price from Apple.9. Transfer Data to Your New iPad
Finally, if you bought yourself a new iPad, you can pick up where you left off by transferring your data to the new device. There are three main ways to do this.
If you have both your iPad and the new device with you, switch on the new iPad and bring it close to your old iPad (before erasing the old one). You’ll see a prompt on the old iPad asking if you want to transfer data to the new one. You can follow the on-screen prompts, and all data will be transferred to the new device.
Alternatively, you can restore from an iCloud or a computer backup during the setup process for the new iPad.
