2023 Acura MDX Type S debuts with 355HP turbocharged V6 motor
The 2023 Acura MDX Type S is the first Acura SUV to wear the Type S badge. Acura first unveiled the all-new MDX Type S at the 2023 Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb as the official tow vehicle of team Acura. Now that the cat is out of the bag, we can officially proclaim the first-ever MDX Type S as the most powerful and best-handling Acura SUV ever made, and it’s packing the same engine found in the magnificent TLX Type S sport-luxury sedan.
“The MDX Type S is for people who love to drive,” said Emile Korkor, assistant vice president, Acura National Sales. “It delivers an unmatched combination of thrilling dynamics, premium features, and family-friendly accommodations.”
Based on the fourth-generation MDX seven-seat SUV, the Type S variant has a potent and torquey 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 motor pumping out 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Acura has yet to reveal the performance numbers, but the automaker claims it’s the quickest-accelerating SUV in the automaker’s history. The engine sends power to all four wheels via a reengineered 10-speed automatic gearbox connected to Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system with standard torque vectoring.
The fourth-generation SH-AWD system can send up to 70-percent of engine torque to the rear axle, and the system can send 100-percent of that torque to either the left or right rear wheel to improve traction, grip, handling, and stability on any road surface or terrain. The MDX Type S features unique 21-inch gray or black alloy wheels wrapped in 40-series Continental ContiSeal tires, the first Acura to get self-sealing tires.
The standard Acura MDX has a long hood, stretched wheelbase, and wider stance, but the Type S model takes it up a notch. The sportiest Acura SUV ever made has a bespoke open-surface Diamond Pentagon grille that allows ten percent more cooling air to enter the engine bay. It also gets more prominent side vents on the front to cool a pair of new sub-radiators behind.
Furthermore, the 2023 Acura MDX Type S has adaptive air suspension with custom valve rates and a new Sport+ driving mode with stiffer damper settings. Acura took the trouble of relocating the engine battery to the cargo area to improve the weight distribution and handling. There’s also a new Lift mode that raises the vehicle by two inches to improve the ground clearance when going over snow or rough terrain.
In addition, the MDX Type S features Acura’s electric-servo braking system, first seen in the second-gen NSX supercar. It also has red Brembo four-piston brake calipers (and red calipers in the rear) with larger rotors to deliver more substantial stopping power.
Meanwhile, the interior has a flat-bottom tiller, Type S badging, contrasting stitching, and soft-touch Milano leather seats available in Red, Ebony, or Light Orchid. Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster (Acura Precision Cockpit) and a 12.3-inch high-definition infotainment touchscreen. Additionally, the Advance package gets quilted Milano leather seats, massaging front seats, and an ELS Studio 3D Signature Edition audio system with 25 speakers and two amplifiers to deliver studio-quality sound.
It even gets a new front and rear low-speed braking system that automatically applies the brakes when the vehicle moves forward or reverses between 1 to 6 mph. It’s also worth noting that all MDX trim models (including the MDX Type S) got a top Safety Pick + rating from the IIHS and a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA.
The 2023 Acura MDX Type S is available for early reservation at the automaker’s official MDX Type S website. Acura claims the first US deliveries are arriving at dealerships this December. Pricing and other info will be announced soon, but expect to pay around $60,000 to relish the privilege of driving a seven-seat Type S SUV.

Here are 10 Celebrities Living With Type 1 Diabetes Vanessa Williams
Vanessa Williams was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was young. Trailblazing to success at a younger age, Vanessa was the first African-American crowned as Miss America, and she actively enjoyed a successful acting and singing career. She lost her grandmother to diabetes and has donated to several diabetes-related charities, including the American Heart Foundation.
Her book “Healthy Child” is about children living with diabetes. In an interview with WebMD, Williams shared her optimism about living with diabetes. She is not obsessed with her look and doesn’t care if her clothes fit a bit tight. She loves eating but doesn’t overindulge in it and has been modifying her diet ever since. Despite her hurdles, she is socially active and does not let her diabetes control her life.Theresa May
Theresa May became the second woman to serve as Prime Minister in the UK in 2023. She was later diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and became the first world leader in serving a country with type 1 diabetes actively.
What is most inspirational about her is that she has always been open about her health condition and eager to share her experience with the audience. In fact, you can always see her wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) device on her arm.
You would be surprised to know that she was first misdiagnosed with type 2 diagnosed in her blood test after her recent weight loss. This came to light when her prescription medication failed to work, and she took the test once again.
After her type 1 diabetes diagnosis, she switched to two insulin injections daily, which later increased to four.
Maintaining diabetes is difficult, especially when your work revolves around having dinners, speaking at conferences, and attending debates. However, she continues to win her battle against diabetes while inspiring millions.Nick Jonas
Lead singer and guitarist of the popular band The Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13. Generally, a blood sugar level over 600 mg/dL is considered life-threatening. Nick Jonas’s blood sugar level was over 700 at the time, requiring immediate hospitalization.
He is vocal and active on social media platforms like instagram and TikTok regarding his diabetes. He pointed out four of his type-1 diabetes symptoms in one of his videos, which include weight loss, frequent urination, irritability, and weight loss.
He made his condition public in 2007, two years after the diagnosis, while playing at a Diabetes Research Institute Carnival. He inspired many young people living with the condition.Alexandra Park
We all know Alexandra Park as Princess Eleanor from The Royals, but little anyone knows that she has type 1 diabetes just before her life-changing casting at the age of 23. She mentioned that in her memoir “Sugar High.” The book focuses more on helping people with diabetes rather than her journey. She mentioned her type 1 diabetes as her secret struggle as she tried to know it better than going public. In her exclusive interview at Us Weekly, she mentioned all the mistakes she made trying to juggle her health and career.Gary Hall Jr.
Everybody knows Gary Hall jr. as an accomplished competitive swimmer, but some of you don’t know that he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1999. By that time, he had already won four Olympic medals, and a diagnosis of diabetes came to an end in his swimming career. However, determination always wins. In 2000, he became one of the fastest swimmers in the world and retired with 10 Olympic medals (5 Gold) in 2008.
Gary Hall Jr. never shies away from talking about his diabetes. He tells his struggles after the diagnosis, how he learned to increase his stamina without fatigue, and how he adjusted to a new training method where he had to get out of the water to check his blood sugar every 45 minutes.
He is currently a member of JRDF and often gives interviews about diabetes to young people, emphasizing how one can still accomplish their life goal while living with diabetes.Este Haim
Este Haim, popular singer and bassist of the internationally successful trio Haim, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 14. She learned about his condition in her biology class while experiencing symptoms like weight loss and constant thirst. She immediately went to the nurse and convinced them for a test, which turned out positive.
She talks about the challenges she endures in managing her diabetes on her HAIM tour along with her sisters Daniella and Alana. Her band has also done tours to raise money for diabetes charities.Mary Tyler Moore
Mary Tyler Moore is a popular celebrity known for her performance in shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show. She also appeared in several shows and movies as well as was honored with numerous prestigious awards.
Moore was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in a very unfortunate incident. She came to know about her diabetes when she was hospitalized for a miscarriage at the age of 33. With a routine blood test, her blood sugar was recorded at 750, resulting in an immediate insulin therapy administration.
For those who don’t know, pregnant people with diabetes are at higher risk of birth complications like stillbirth and miscarriage, which require constant care and effective management of the condition.
Moore dedicated her life to promoting diabetes research and served as the International Chairman at JDRF for years before her death in 2023.Halle Berry
Popular star Halle Berry was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1989 after she lapsed into a diabetic coma during her shoot of In Living dolls. She went into a keto diet shortly after her diagnosis at 22. In 2004, she became an ambassador of the National Diabetes Education program and launched a health app in 2023 to promote wellness and weight loss.Bret Michaels
Bret Michaels, frontman of the rock band Poison was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at six. Although he never let his diabetes slows him down, he suffered other health issues in 2010, including a brain hemorrhage. His life was full of health-related struggles. In his entire lifetime, he has to go through an emergency appendectomy, a transient ischemic attack, and a hole in the heart.
He was also a victim of alcohol and drug abuse. He has gone through a near-death experience and comes out of it victorious. Currently, he seems more healthy and stable. Sources say he is managing his glucose level religiously, following a healthy diet, and working out regularly.Max Domi

Today’s flagship smartphones are absolutely jam-packed with camera features. From staples like HDR, night mode, and portrait mode to astrophotography, Single Take, Magic Eraser, and Clone mode, there really are no shortage of modes to choose from if you want to get creative (or just want a better shot).
In saying so, there’s one feature I’d really like Android manufacturers to embrace in 2023, and that’s simultaneous photo capture.
When we’re talking about simultaneous capture, we mean taking two or more photos at once. And no, we’re not talking about the Dual Sight or “Bothie” feature popularized by HMD’s Nokia phones, letting you take a photo via the rear camera and front shooter. We mean photos simultaneously shot via different rear cameras or several separate photos concurrently shot via the same camera. This isn’t a new feature but it’s one that, I feel, should be far more widespread.
More photography coverage: The best camera phones worth buying
A brief history of simultaneous capture
One of the earliest examples of this tech came with Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone handsets. Devices like the Lumia 1020 and 1520 offered the ability to simultaneously capture full-resolution (38MP and 19MP respectively) and oversampled images (5MP) back in 2013. This means you got one image for editing and another image that’s smaller, cleaner, and more suitable for sharing.
The fun didn’t stop there with these phones, as they also offered simultaneous JPEG and RAW capture. Yes, you could capture a full-resolution RAW shot and a 5MP oversampled JPEG. This was another example of how simultaneous image capture can be convenient, giving you a file for non-destructive editing and a smaller file for sharing again. This is actually one of the most common examples of this feature on the market today, with the likes of Google, Sony, OnePlus, and vivo all offering simultaneous RAW+JPEG capture on some devices.
Assorted resolution, color profile, and AI-enhanced images would let us pick the best-looking shot without having to reshoot.
How about this tech being deployed to Pixels, taking one image with the shadow slider all the way up and another with the shadow slider reduced? Or somewhere in between. What about one shutter press giving you a shot with a smartphone’s AI mode on and one with the mode disabled? There’s a huge range of possibilities.
Why stop at images?

Simultaneous capture smarts aren’t limited to photos either. Flagship phones from HUAWEI and Samsung, as well as the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra seen above, offer a dual recording mode. This records video via two cameras, be it a front and rear camera or two rear cameras. In Xiaomi’s case, you can choose to combine the two video streams into one video using a side-by-side format, or it can spit out two separate 1080p video files in a more traditional aspect ratio.
It’s a really cool feature, and we’d love to see more manufacturers hop on this bandwagon, particularly when it comes to offering separate 16:9 video files. Nevertheless, today’s silicon offers support for features like triple 4K video, showing that concurrent recording via up to three rear cameras is within reach too.
There are a few challenges with simultaneous capture via two or more cameras though, with the first hurdle being thermal-related. We’ve already seen brands shy away from “unlimited” 960fps recording introduced by the Snapdragon 888 series, ostensibly due to thermal reasons. And we haven’t seen many companies offer concurrent video capture either, presumably for the same reasons.
Concurrent image capture is clearly less ambitious than concurrent video capture, so we’d love to see this tech come to more phones in 2023 and beyond. After all, if the Galaxy Note 8, Lumia 1520, and LG V40 all offered differing takes on the technology years ago, there’s no reason why we can’t see more of it today. When combined with today’s better cameras, multiple lenses, and AI smarts, simultaneous capture should be a stand-out feature.

It’s been more than two years since the Samsung Galaxy S was released, but despite many new and better devices having come out, some are still sticking to their Galaxy S, which includes custom ROM developers that continue to keep it updated unofficially to the latest version of Android.
A new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean based custom ROM has come out for the Galaxy S – Blackbean ROM, which is based on stock Android 4.1 but takes customization features and other things from many different ROMs and integrates them together. The ROM also has been inverted to have a black background theme all through the interface, including inverted system apps as well.
“Samsung Captivate owners can try out Jelly Bean ROMs → here, while Vibrant owners can find some → here.”
NOTE, Please Read: Since this is an unofficial AOSP based ROM, some features like 3G video calling will be unavailable as those are only possible on stock Samsung ROMs (video calls using 3rd party apps like Skype will work fine though). Some other features such as an FM radio will be missing too, and some apps like camera may not be the same as on stock ROMs.
Let’s take a look at how the Blackbean ROM can be installed on the Galaxy S.
This ROM and the guide below are compatible only and only with the Samsung Galaxy S, model number i9000. It’s not compatible the GT-i9003 or with any other device and may render an incompatible device unusable. Check your device model in Settings » About phone.
The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. If any damage occurs to your device, we won’t be held liable.
How to Install Blackbean ROM on Galaxy S i9000
NOTE, Please Read: If you are already running an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or a Jelly Bean ROM on your phone, you DO NOT need to perform steps 3 and 4 below and can skip to step 5 after step 2.
NOTE: Don’t forget to at least make a backup of your APN settings, which you can restore later if your data connection does not work after installing the ROM. Use the backup guide to find out how.
Remove SIM Card lock, if you have set it earlier. Go here: Settings » Location and Security » SIM Card lock » checkbox should be clear (not selected).
Flash the stock XXJW4 firmware by using → this guide.
Root XXJW4 to obtain Clockworkmod recovery (CWM) by using → this guide.
Download the latest version of the ROM from source page.
Copy the downloaded zip file to the internal SD card.
Turn off your Galaxy S and wait for complete shutdown (wait for vibration and check capacitive button lights).
In recovery, use Volume keys to scroll up and down and power key to select an option.
Select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm. Wait a while till the data wipe is complete.
Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Scroll to the ROM file on the sdcard and select it. Confirm installation by selecting Yes on the next screen. The ROM will start installing.
The phone will reboot into recovery in the middle of installation and then continue installing the ROM. However, if it simply reboots but doesn’t continue installation, repeat step 10. Or, if the phone gets stuck at the boot screen after rebooting, remove and re-insert the battery, then repeat from step 8.
NOTE: To go back to a stock Samsung ROM if you don’t like this ROM, you can install the XXJW4 ROM by following the guide linked in step 2 above.
Also try out some other Jelly Bean ROMs for the Galaxy S → here.
***Rampant speculation alert — EDIT: yup only 7.4 – look for 8 to deliver HD movies …soon ***
So as the disclaimer says, this is just “informed” speculation. However, with a release of iPods this big looming (They booked Moscone West?!), it would make sense that iTunes would get an upgrade. How big an upgrade? At least a point upgrade to cover the new hardware…so at the low end, we are looking at a bug-fix upgrade: 7.3.3. However this is a huge event right? So at least 7.4!
Why should we stop there? It has been a full year since the release of iTunes 7… And there have to be some big new features on the horizon, right? I mean iTunes is central to Apple. It is the one thing that connects all of its business units. Mac, iPod, iPhone and AppleTV are all connected through iTunes. It has to be time for a full upgrade!iTunes 8 ! iTunes ’08 ?
iTunes ’08 MediaCenter for Mac and PC. That’s right, instead of having to deal with Vista MediaCenter, you can just buy a barebones XP PC (cheap), install iTunes (easy) and plug it into your TV. Also, we know that the AppleTV is a cheap PC. Why not make the AppleTV a full iTunes 8 client. It can be done, so why not? The positives outweigh the negatives.
As a matter of fact, this is wild speculation so let’s get even more crazy here. “iTunes” as a name is wearing out. It is an incredibly solid brand but it no longer really identifies the software product. Originally when it was first built, it explained its primary purpose as a music player, then as a means to transfer music to the iPod. It even made sense as the iTunes store when the only items sold were music. However its role has grown wildly. Just look at Apple’s Website:
AppleTV? Shows? Movies? Games? Audiobooks? What does that have to do with “Tunes”? How about iPod/iPhone syncing? Yeah, you do still have some music on there but it also does your calendar, address book, pictures, and a whole slew of other syncing activities. My vote is for something like…iHub ’08 – the center of your digital universe… …wait…iMedia!…no iEntertainment!
..or something. Perhaps Apple will just move this functionality over to iSync. Or maybe Quicktime will play a part? From an identity standpoint it is confusing and doesn’t mesh with the long term strategy…
The “iTunes” name could still exist as the music player, or the music store name on the Mac or even also shift over to the iPods/iPhones/AppleTVs. However this change in role could confuse the consumer. If Apple does change the name on September 5th, will “iTunes.app” be dead? :'(
No, probably not… iTunes 8 😀
1. Server version- Frequently there are now multiple libraries and caches of music stored in silos in the typical home. It’s time for Apple to have a robust solution for managing the media needs of a family or small group. The ability to centrally store data yet locally manage/manipulate the metadata is crucial to moving iTunes like apps into a more multi-user environment. Storage space is rapidly increasing in size and decreasing in cost but the management “costs” of storage will always rise unless one move to a more sophisticated method of storing and retrieving data.
2.New organizational structure – iTunes 7 does some weird things. I’ve downloaded video files that pop up in my music library. Some podcasts don’t show up where the podcasts should go. iTunes 8 should not have these problems. The metadata encoded in the file should place each item in its proper place. Video/Movie files should not be in my music library. Stopping messing up my feng shui Apple.
3. Better editing tools (metadata editing) -I’ve often wondered why I cannot modify certain chunks of data in iTunes. I’ve imported songs before that have certain sort attributes that I’d love to edit such as “date added”. Give me a Power Users option to fix what iTunes sometimes screwsup regardless of fault.
4. Realtime Apple Lossless to AAC encoding/syncing – I want to rip my CDs into Apple Lossless Encoding yet when I sync my iPod/iPhone I want to be able to choose on the fly compression. At home I want the most pristine quality I can get but on the road 256k AAC is more than enough. Computers are now fast enough to do this. Please make it happen so that I can rip to one codec and still keep flexibility for mobile product.
5. HD movie support– A no brainer. I expect iT8 to be the version that brings forth HD 720p movies from iTunes from multiple studios.
7. Beef up the community of iTunes- come’on the rating system sucks. I don’t want to read people blathering about music unless we share some commonality in music taste. A rating system based on a Reputation Management system will track other users who tend to like the same music and give priority to their views. This is more important to me. Cap the iMix limit. I don’t want to wade through 90 track iMixes. Pick your favorite tunes up to 25 tracks please.
8. Parental Controls- Going along with central storage and metadata editing would be a security system that would allow the family admin (aka parent) to flag files that should not be accessible via some family members. Once a piece of media is flagged nc17 or whatever it immediately is hidden from the computers of those who are barred from nc17 media.
9. Lyric support- iT8 should be able to retrieve lyrics from an Apple iTunes server and import them into the proper song. This way if I forget the title of a song I can do a lyrics search and find the song.
10. Revolutionary Personal Media sharing- Apple should allow iT8 to become the conduit to enable personal sharing via broadcasting services through Wide Area Bonjour. iTunes would handle the connection This would allow you to literally publish or subscribe to end user content set up as a service on a personal computer. Think of Apple’s answer to You Tube but better since audio would equally be supported. No money involved and Apple’s bandwidth isn’t used chúng tôi just manages the connection from end to end.
